hey, a friend was involved in a hit and run, we got the plates to the car that ran, but the cops wont do anything because it wasn't major, just some quarter panel damage, and since they didnt see it, they wont do anything about it. Does anyone know how to do a license plate look up since the cops wont do the work. it was a older body dodge ram ext cab, prob a 98 body style. i only got the 1st 6 number of the license #. it is 6595co_ . if anyone can help, it would help us a lot, thanks.

Go to the local DMV, they can do a plate lookup for a fee usually.

Hell with that; if they were at fault, report it to your insurance company and let them do the job you're paying them for. Best way to collect the money you're owed.

Then the only way to do it is to see if somebody has a friend in law enforcement, and have them get the info for you.
Be very careful. It's never a good idea to take matters into your own hands. They often turn out differently than you expect. It pisses you off, as it does me, but it's only sheet metal, and things can get ugly really fast sometimes.

i wouldn't be so quick to help guys. as far as we know this guy's trying to steal someone's car or rob their house.
dude, report it to the cops and they should be all over it. especially with a description of the truck and almost a full plate number. how many vehicles are gonna fit that description w/ that plate number and have damage to the car? tell the cops to get off their asses and if they won't, then speak to a supervisor.
