I finally got everything I need to build my own.

Parts used were as folows:

AEM DryFlow filter 3.5" OD neck

Intense Racing 3.5" tubing and TB adapter with IAT hole, meant for the 3800, but modified to work with my IAT sensor.

3.75" Silicone coupler after finding out that two pieces that both have a 3.5' OD will not fit together :oops:

A small piece of rubbery/plastic flooring type material...I used it to patch up a hole on the splashguard material that would allow water and grit to splash up into the filter.

Total cost was slightly less than 150 bucks, not sure on the exact figure, and some of the cost couldve been elimnated had I ordered the right stuff the first time around.

The PCM sits in the stock location, using whats left of the stock airbox, I cut away a large portion of it, keeping only enough to securely hold the PCM in the stock locale.

The hole in the fenderwell had to be modified slightly to allow the filter to slip through, it still barely fit through, but fits fine once it gets in there.

Ive been running a Short Ram setup for quite a while, and I seemed to notice even still more throttle response from the brief test drive I took. Sound is different from that setup but I think I like it better.

Im starting to feel that the PCM is holding it back quite a bit, because when you step on the gas from a roll the engine revs almost instantly, but theres still a noticeable lag before it downshifts and takes off.

I have a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue as well
and i have found the Intense Racing 3.5" tubing but i dont know how many feet of it i need

i cannot find where u purchased the TB adapter with IAT hole and how did u modify it for it to work with your car

i was planning on usin a K&N air filter instead of your AEM DryFlow filter 3.5" OD neck but i am not sure if it is better or worse

and where is this hole in the "splashguard material" because i certainly dont want to allow water into my engine lol

well if u could reply back it would help me considerably and would be very much appreciated

Well...I think Intense offers 3 inch tubing now as well, which they did not at the time I ordered it, and the smaller size might actually work better for this engine, but thats mere speculation. The 3 inch size might fit directly on the throttle body and MAF housing, elimnating the need to use some stock materials. But you would need to take some measurements.

As for how much, I ordered 3 feet, and I think Ive got close to 2 feet left. you can see that I really didnt use much tubing, so you should be safe with 2 feet if you want to duplicate my setup.

The TB adapter is actually one that is used in some of their other pre-fab intakes for the 3800, Im not sure which one I ordered as thats been a little while back, but I was able to place a custom order just for the adapter because I had a contact with Intense from a Bonneville forum im on. I had to pay about 50 bucks for that piece, so my advice would be to get a filter that has a hole for the IAT sensor, and extend the wiring to reach the filter. The IAT sensor is short and fat as opposed to long and skinny like on the 3800, so I had to modify that silicone piece to accept it. That would be another option as well, get a short piece of silicone tubing and drill/cut a hole to accomodate the sensor, seal it up with some RTV sealant or something like that.

As for the hole, there was just a small slit in my fenderwell splashguarding, may be unique to my car, and since that time, I had a fender bender on that side, and the stuff I used to patch the hole was discarded when they repaired it and I never put it back, Ive been through rain,sleet, snow, and hell since then and never had an issue.

As for the filter, if you get one with a 3.5 OD neck, youll run into the same issue I did, the tubing and the filter wont fit together. Not sure what to tell you to do about that. I used a piece of silicone to make it work. A K&N should work just fine. I went with the AEM because it supposedly filters better than a K&N, and I live in a very dusty environment. I have to literally shove my filter into that hole being careful not to damage it, once its in its fine, but its a tight squeeze with the filter body size I have.

Some things Ive done since then:

I took some of that black foam stuff that goes around plumbing pipes....think hollow swimming noodle except black....and cut them about in half then cut slits down them and laid them over the metal ridges all the way around the filter, as well as the little metal ridge that is on the PCM. Ill try and get pics of that later so it will make sense for you, its hard to describe.

I also drastically shorted the pipe length on the Air Pump, if you pull the driver side headlight, you will see the tubing from the Secondary Air Injection Pump, this was actually bumping up against my filter and such, so I cut the tubing and made it much much shorter, I just kept the little "sock" thing on the end, except now its about 3 inches long instead of 2 feet haha. Dont have any issues I can trace back to that either.

Okay I ran out in the rain and snapped a couple pics before I gotta leave.

These first two just kinda show the black stuff I used, I didnt use it for insulation from engine bay heat, I used it to dampen the vibrations the intake setup was causing, keep in mind that under WOT that intake is going to be twisted as the engine twists back towards the firewall, so it was contacting bare metal and making vibrations and not cool noises, that stuff seems to have cut back on that dramatically though. The ridges on the PCM were actually starting to cut into the tubing a little, I could see the metal from the springs inside. That has stopped as well.

Please excuse the dirt and grime, it hasnt stopped raining or snowing around here long enough for me to ever get the car truly clean. I live 5 miles down a dirt road, so it gets a little muddy sometimes haha.

and the pictures explain the black foam situation perfectly

so if i get the 3in tubing and it fits directly onto the TB will i need more than 2 feet of it (i would assume so)
and if it is now 3" instead of 3.5", would the K&N 3.5 OD fit on the tube now
or, if there is, a 3.25 OD Filter i should get that for a tighter fit?
im gonna need a electronics IAT harness extender to allow the iat to reach my filter that has a hole for it?

oh ya lol
i went to my car to check where the fenderwell opening was
i am gonna have to cut and make my own hole huh?

and one final thing
i still cant figure out how im gonna protect the filter from the elements
is this splashguard something u bought seperate?

i found a youtube video of an alero with a pacesetter cat back exhaust system, im not quite sure if it fits the intrigue yet, but it sounds amazing and i would recommend it if u have not done anything drastic to your exhaust yet

(im doin all these mods to try and keep up with my buddy's new 89 camaro iroc z-28 352 tpi with a custom transmission and torque converter =D )
