Water In Intake!!

I had a question. I acidently got water in my air filter and intake sucked in sum. can this effect the engine after water got in i tried to start the car and it started but the engine wanted to die and it did die after about 3 starts. i took the filter and dried it and put it back. after 1 hour everything seemed normal but a couple days after i got a oil low warning light on the guages. please help.

well alittle water eill not hert will make it not want to run the oil light may be un related check your oil
also make sure when you post you give some info on yer car year engine that sort of thing

depending on how much water got in it could cause major problems or its all fine. my machine shop i go to gets motors in there every once and a while that water got sucked into and one had a fist size hole in the block. it was a little focus i think and he had a cold air intake in his fender and he drove through a puddle and blew a hole in his his block. sometimes the heads can crack or you will blow a gasket or you will not suck much up and its good. but if your computer controlled i guess water on the mass air flow sensor isnt good so that could be the reason its not running right. is it throwing any codes other then low oil?

When you get water in an engine it could cause hydrolock (since liquid doesn't compress0. Generally, when in doubt, try and turn the crank by hand first. If it turns smoothly, it may be okay to fire up. Me personally, would always go the safe route and remove all the saprk plugs and give it a few cranks noting any water coming out of the plug holes.

My wife's girlfriend made a fist sized hole in her Interpid, I mean Intrepid going through a puddle and trying to restart it, the cylinder was packed full of water and the connecting rod gave way and out the block, not a pretty sight.

if you got a small ammount of water in the engine it might thin out the oil and thats why the light came on. if you got alot in then dont try to start it, pull the plugs out and turn it over, dry out the plugs, reinstall them and then try to start it. my friend hydrolocked his sentra after i told him not to start it. rod out the bottom of the engine.
