Eagle Summit 1992 Hatchback ES:

1. I've found the tensioners for the other two belts, but can't find the tensioner for the powersteering pump

>> I assume all belts should be tensioned to "half an inch" of play (this is pretty tight??

2. I found this wire hanging around. I assume it needs to be grounded. For the time being I just put some electrical tape on it

3. Clean or Dirty? Doesn't look that bad to me:

You'll have to consult a wiring diagram to find out what the wire is. Buy a shop manual for the car. They're very helpful.

The belts should be tensioned to about 1/4" of deflection. If there is no tensioner on the belt, the belt is adjusted by loosening the mounts on the component and prying it outward, then tightening the bolts.

The filter is not too dirty, but while you have it out its probably only $10 to replace it if you're not sure.

crowbars are useful in tensioning belts. most accessories that run off a belt come with a place to put a prybar to get leverage to pull against the tension of the belt.

You mean you literally just PRY the component away to tension it? The other belt systems had tensioners that were really obvious, cruel that this would be so hacked.

then again there's that thick metal piece that seems to serve no purpose.

So moral of tightening, tight is better than loose, 1/4 or deflection? I shall crank yem hahda
