speedo works, but not odometer?

My girlfriend has a 99 Escort LX sedan (no cruise control,) the odometer and trip odometer quit working but the speedometer still works, any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a good way to keep the mileage down to me. Just change the oil every 3 months or when it gets really nasty lookin'.

Probably would require service or replacement of the speedo assembly since the speedo still works. Not worth the trouble unless you really feel like you need the odom.
