i have a 01 3.8 that has developed a starting problem. after it has set over night or for a few days it will just crank and crank without firing.at first i was suspect of the chip in the key as i had tried another one and it started and ran with no trouble for about a week, but it has progressivly got worse and more frequent latley and switching keys does'nt make any difference.one time i noticed right before it started that all the dash guages, spedo, tach etc all pegged and dropped back and then started. last night when it would not start i hooked the timing light up and it did flash as it has fire anyway. would this situation store a code that can be checked? thanks for any advice!

well i have pretty much ruled out ignition.it started again 2 days ago and was fine until today. i drove it a few miles shut it off and when i came back to leave it started but tyen started chugging badley. i made it a few blocks and lost all power.if i spay some gas in the throttle body it will start and run until that is gone. so i was thinking water in the gas or something. i put in some de-icer and a few more gallons of gas but no luck, it would just crank and never even try to start. i then changed the fuel filter and felt pretty good as it started right up but after sitting at idle for about two minutes or more it started chugging and quit again. i keep thinking that there could be omething in the tank. i sure don't want to drop the tank unless i know thats the problem.
