im prob never gona do this but i have a couple of questions about engine swaping in our cars
why is it that most 6g72 i see on ebay are for gen 1 3k, aint it the same engine?
is it possible to have a twin turbo 6g72 with an auto fwd tranny?
or if the tt engine comes with a 5spd swap but its a awd tranny... so it cant be swapping into a fwd right?

* They are the same motors just a few differences. For example, some of the later motors have more sensors than the first gen (ie cam and crank sensor). You could put a 2nd gen motor in but it would just be a hassle. Another thing is, is that 2nd and 3rd gen have some forged internals instead of cast.
* It is possible to do a TT conversion with an auto FWD tranny. Many people have done this along with HotShot. However I have not seen him on here recently. It is the same block so you could take the 5 spd AWD off and bolt it up to your atx. This is easier said than done as you would need intercoolers, TT Ecu, new fuel pump, wiring harness, etc, etc.

* I couldn't say for sure but my guess would be if you were to swap a first gen motor into the second you need some sort of new wiring harness. However I am not sure your ECU would even let your motor fire if not all sensors were connected.
*There are customs shops that do this. Zeiss (haven't seen him around recently either) did this with his car. Just make sure the people you are handing your car over to know what the hell they are doing.

thats my problem lol
this is the swap i wanted to do

Yeah it would be much easier to just find a motor for your year of car and then take off the AWD tranny and sell it. You can swap in an AWD tranny but it is not worth the hassle. You would be far better off just buying a VR4 if you wanted AWD TT.

if you do some searching on these forums, you'll find the answer to your question. when a lot of FWD guys do the TT conversion, they have problems with the FWD transmissions breaking after a while. usually the differential explodes b/c of excessive wheel hop. this can be remedied by installing a Limited Slip Differential (LSD). [get a true LSD, not a LSD insert b/c those tend to fail and break. the true LSD will cost you more, but save the tranny in the long run. as for which LSD to get, Quaife is the best b/c they have a lifetime guarantee, even if your racing].
however, the next weak link in the FWD trannies is the 2nd gear. so what a lot of FWD TT guys have done is take the 5spd AWD tranny and convert it into FWD. this is easily done by welding the VCU (viscous coupling unit) inside the transmission. however, since VCUs aren't made anymore for the AWD trannies, don't weld a perfectly good VCU. rather, get a VCU that's broken and weld it.

if you want to use the FWD ATX for your TT engine, this has been done before many times. however, since you will have a lot more power to put to the ground (TT conversion), the stock ATX will only hold so much. so you'll need to upgrade your ATX, which should include a shift kit, stall converter, tranny cooler, and various other things. send a PM to HotShot8792 for more info, or search for posts by him. he's done the TT conversion with an ATX FWD tranny.

You can make them work but your year has a few minor differences as I mentioned above. (ie more sensors)

the 6G72 is the engine code for all years of the 3000GT and dodge stealth. perhaps the only one's you are seeing on ebay are out of 91-93 year model 3S's. the engine CAN work fine in a 94+ car, but there will be many differences in sensors and such, as SL3000gt said.

If you really wanted to.. you could just turbo your car.. and run a tt ecu.. i wouldnt turn the boost above vr4 stock boost(but i dont know much about the base modle).. and i would get a fuel pump....

The TT swap is easy as hell if you got all the parts. As for the engine the 91 6G72 will work on all year models.
Id get a 94+ engine though just cause of the forged internals.
There are lots of engine shops online that can crate you a new short block or longblock and you can have a tunner shop do the swap.
I recomend Xtreme Autowerk in Kendall. they do alot of nice work and have worked on many 3000GTs. the owner is a sick tunner too, knows how to do quality work.

Correct me if I am wrong but I do not think that is correct. If his car has more sensors coming from the ecu that are just left unplugged that will make the computer at least show a CEL. In fact I would not be surprised if the ecu would not even let the car fire just because it is not getting signal from lets say the cam sensors. So he is then stuck with a motor that won't run.

It'll work, just get addapter or swap the harness for a later year model. Its all plug an play. Get the ECU, harness and engine from the same year and booyaah.
Autowerk dossent sell thier own engine but the owner can locate you an engine and buy it through his shop. he can get you one locally, order one from out of state, hell he can even order a JDM one from Japan.
He also does all the tunning. And yes he knows how to do a later year TT swap on your car.
hes done a zillion swaps on tons of different cars. 240sx with Silvia conversion, Mustangs with LS1s, TT'd G35s, 325 with M3 conversion and TT'd, TT's Porshe 944 and 911s. His shop is amazing.

Yeah but that is just it. You need a new wiring harness and ECU. It would be far easier and cheaper to just get an engine that fits perfectly for his car. :p

Yeah, you would need the corresponding ECU and harness. Not to mention, if you have a 95 and then swap in a 91, you may never pass an inspection again, being that you are now obdI, dunno.
That said, if you are honestly thinking about doing a TT engine swap and an AWD swap, and you plan on having a shop do it for you. Listen carefully. Save yourself a WHOLE lot of money and headaches, and just buy a vr4 or rt/tt.

well swapping out ECU and main harness is cakewalk compared to dropping in an engine. I figure if you can do that then the wireing is a given.
also I think he just wants to TT it and leave it FWD but I get the impression his engine is not running at 100% health.
with that in mind I think a quick engine rebuilt and a TT swap would cost as much or just below buying a VR-4.
I mean if he takes it to the shop, has them do a head job and tt swap. hes gonna roll out with a rejuvinated engine and tuned set up.
if he buys the VR-4 hes gonna have a stock car with a used up engine that might just require a pricey tune up just the same.

i have a question if i do a tt conversion on a 6g72 will it come out to be the exact same vr4 engine in power?

No you wont necessarily. It really depends on alot of factors, and how much boost you decide to run, and if you do all the small stuff correctly, and if you stick with the 10:1 pistons or swap in 8:1, etc, etc, etc. You may get less, you may get more. Zeiss went with larger turbos when he had it done...so for marginally more money, he may have came out with more power than a stock TT.
Please please please read the FAQ under TT conversion. Here is a link (http://www.bobthegreat.com/pages/mycar/mods/turbo/index.html)to a great page. Click on all the tabs on the upper left and read them.
Now if you do all that yourself, you get a cheap TT conversion. If you pay somebody else, it becomes more expensive. If you pay somebody else to do a full motor swap, you are now looking at 3k for hte motor and a few more grand to put it in. Then you add in an AWD swap, and you just tacked on a whole hell of alot more money on the shop's bill. And will be waiting alot longer, and praying you have a competant shop, who knows what they are doing and not screwing up your car, or overcharging you. So when I say, if you want AWD and TT conversions, I seriously 100% mean, if you aren't doing all the work yourself, forget about it, and just buy a vr4. Tuneups are $300 worth of parts and another few hundred in labor if you get a fellow 3Ser to help you.
