97 Lesabre Gas Line Tank to Fuel Filter

Had a small leak in my gas line and had some difficulty removing the old line because I couldn't really get at the clip where it attaches to the tank. Removing it at the filter was not a problem. There isn't much room to get to where it clips to the tank line though. I tried to drop the tank, but broke off the retaining nut where one of the straps bolts up, so it spins and I can't get into the small space to hold the topside. I gave up on dropping the tank. Short of cutting the strap, I mangled the clip end with long pliers to remove it from the tank line. Currently, I just have a piece of 3/8 inch fuel line running from the tank to the filter instead of the plastic line. It is clamped on firmly on both ends. It seems to be working okay.

My question is: How long can I run it with the regular fuel hose? Will the pressure be too high for it and burst the line or will it be okay? It seems to be working fine now, but I don't want to get stranded. I won't be near a dealer until after Thanksgiving. The auto parts store does not carry the regular plastic replacement line. I presume regular gas line will not be sufficient. Thanks.

Most parts stores carry High Pressure Fuel line( or fuel injection hose).If you get the right line it will be more than fine.It HAS to be the fuel injection hose.When I run into issues like this thats what I use at the shop.It does not have to be the plastic line,the only issue is that you should mention it to your mechanic so he can check it from time to time for break down.

On my 97 I was smelling gas toward the rear of the car. I finally got under the car and found that my fuel line was leaking just before the filter. The "O" ring in the plastic tube wasn't holding. I got rid of the plastic and put in fuel injection hose with clamps. This was about a year ago and it's holding fine.

Thanks for the advice. Mine was leaking where it meets the tank line. It wasn't much of a leak, but enough to create a fairly strong gas odor at times. I tracked down 2 feet of fuel injection hose last night and I'll put it on today and call it good. The regular fuel line that is on it now seems to be doing the job, but probably won't hold up.
