Taurus Wagon 3.0 Throttle Body and O2 Sensor

A Ford mechanic said my throttle body is shot (91 Taurus 3.0 Wagon), and unrepairable and the dealer wants $1,200 to replace it. They claim that it's no longer manufactured. I found one on the internet for $230. I know I have the mechanical skills to replace it. My question is what should I know when replacing it? Also I found an O2 sensor for $73 on the internet. I think I can replace that too. What should I know when I replace the O2 sensor. By the way about three years ago I took the intake manifold off of my Taurus I left the throttle body attached to it and I cleaned the throttle body together with the manifold by hanging it with a whire from the rafters of my garage and I simply squirted carberator cleaner all thru it and let it drain over a tarp and then after it looked clean and put it back with a new gasket and the car ran like new.

oops, that might be what caused the problem. I'm not too sure about Fords, but on alot of GM's carb cleaner eats a protective (teflon I think) coating on the throttle blade(s) that allows air to pass smoothly over it. Thus in due time, performance is hindered by turbulant air being inducted.

However, regardless of make, I have but :2cents:

If one doctor tells you that you will die in a week, do you go home and ponder what to do with your time left, or get a second opinion

It would probably take longer than a week to get an appointment :p

And you owe me a $50 co-pay for interrupting my thought. :twak:
