or at least is there a way to improve traction greatly? because im gonna be putting a 500hp turbo kit and if i step on it will prob just spin the hell outta the tires since the car is only 1200lbs and fwd

one of my friends has a turbocharged 2.2L OHV cavalier running on 11psi boost, and is achieving at around 365FWHP, and the only suspension upgrades he has done are the usual strut bar/tower replacements, new calipers, rotors, brake pads, and a nice set of 17" racing tires from Motegi Racing (MR7's?).

With this he doesnt really burn out, unless he rev's into the mid to hi RPM range, and punches into first. Even then, it isnt a terrible burn out. Just remember NOT to use street tires, you'll shred them out before the day's over.

And thank god you don't have a RWD car, then you'll be talkin' about serious suspension tuning. When I had my 300ZX TT, I was stupid enough to get all this nice engine work done on the VG30DETT, and then I managed to push out around 450RWHP on the dyno. My dad drove the bitch home and the next morning I drove it to the school. Landed in a small pit ditch trying to do a quick 0-100 run on OPEN country road, where traction is awesome, and there's no traffic around. I turned a corner and gunned it still going about 35, and tried to drift my way out of it. Let's just say that if you have HICAS technology in your Z, and youve tuned the bitch high enough where it just tries to take over when your approaching a sharp turn such as it is, it will be HELL. It basically overcorrected me WAY too far, and in the attempt to OVERCORRECT the HICAS system, I peeled out and landed rear into the ditch.

I would say stick with the FWD if you want ultimate traction, thats what FWD is mostly known for. AWD on the avenger would be a huge bitch, not to mention if you've got the money for it. And if you do, I would sell the Avenger and get a much better potentially-based car, like a WRX STi, some car that's meant to be tuned fast, and already has AWD.

If you want power, go RWD. And note that they aren't made to drift, unless your a pro, and I will admit, I am NO pro at drifting or even racing for that matter. So if you love overtaking someone on a corner, and your driving like an '89 camaro with a chevy 305/350, be prepared to die.

Don't get me wrong, the Avenger is a decent car, but I really believe that it just isn't made to be made fast. Just like cavaliers, civics (except type-R's), accords, Sentra SE-R's, Saabs, etc.

If you havent done this already, and are still interested in deep-tuning your Avenger, please do the 3.0L swap. With a huge turbo kit on the 2.5L, you'll kill the engine in no time, if you dont empty your wallet before this. The 6G72 will allow you to ask questions in the 3000GT/Stealth forum, which the guys there would really know how to tune a forced-induction engine of the 6G7x line, since there isnt a large crowd of turbo'd 6G73's.

The LAST thing I will say to you concerning a solution to the AWD conversion is looking into the 420A motor by Mitsubishi. Yes, the same line made in Eclipses and the I4 Avengers. I believe they mostly run on AWD, and I've seen a person on CarDomain do a successful AWD conversion on his V6 Avenger body, but he swapped his V6 for the I4. Find a donor car of the I4 chassis, and you'll be off to a great start!

Good luck!
Let me know if youre getting into the 420A conversion, I'll do my best to keep you informed on the next few steps.

My car already has the 420a motor, and about taht cavi. it only has 365, the turbo im putting in it is capable of 500hp, so basicly your telling me its worthless to upgrade my motor on my car,? and to get rid of it because its not ment to be fast?

you may want to keep in mind that the turbo may be rated at 500hp but your engine definantly isnt and wont last...but if you want to to try it anyway i would first off suggest major upgrades on the engine internals, and a good and relatively cheap way of getting better traction it to put a limited slip differential in it, its basically pose traction for front wheel drive cars. i myself am planning on doing the awd conversion on my avenger and so far i have found that the awd train and assembly from the eclipse is the closest thing that you will find

good luck

My point exactly, for all those looking to do the AWD conversion, the best assembly is the powertrain from the 420A eclipse GSX.

i would just spend the money on getting some forged pistons and connecting rods, and turning that boost up. i'd be impressed to see a FWD avenger make 12's in the 1/4 mile drag with a T3/T4/GT32E single turbo and rarely any big suspension mods. you pull that off, and ill envy you until i get my hands on a turbo manifold for the V6 6G73... damn exileracing, they havent replied to my subsequent emails for about a month or two now. hahns racing was my only hope, until i just found out that they only make a turbo kit for the I4, which means no manifold.

someone, please make me a custom manifold for the 6G73!!!

if anyone crazy enough, id like to see someone insert one of the following engines into the bay of the Avenger, and get it up and running. I might do one of these sometime during college:

1) VG30DETT 3.0L V6 DOHC - Twin Turbo Nissan 300ZX 300HP stock
2) RB26DETT 2.5L I6? DOHC - Twin Turbo Nissan GT-R R33/R34 320HP stock
3) SR20DET 2.0L I4 DOHC - Single Turbo Nissan 180SX JDM 164HP
4) RB32DETT 3.2L V6 DOHC - Twin Turbo Hybrid GT-R VSpec 1400HP capable

These would be the best swaps I could ever see being fit into an Avenger. Imagine the faces of all the Honda kids and 'stang guys when they see your Avenger fly off because its being fed 20+psi boost and not even trying on stock/lightly forged internals... orgasmic.

i have already planed on upgradeing the internals with forged pistons rods head studs bearings retainers valve springs and cams. and the Lsd

sweet, if i were in your position, i would do that first, but thats what i would do, you may go about it different. but its sad, i havent even done a 60k service yet! and my engine's got 159k on it...

according to hahn and their dodge avenger they ran 11's and has over 400whp with the same upgrades im doing to my car. but im doing more internal upgrades than them. such as cams. also new drive axles. with their stage 2 i could run 13.7 and im getting stage 5. :)

keep me updated on this project, im interested. id also like to know how much youll spend into something liek this. internals are gunna be crazy, and the fuel system. this would be sweet to see you get this 420A to over 400.

i really dont think so to be honest because i dont think that the 4 cylinder was never meant to have a 500hp output but i could be wrong. if it is pulled off and the engine lasts 50k i would be very impressed. with the dohc 3.0 im rebuilding for my avenger im looking to get around 350-400hp. i dont really want to excede that because i want the engine to last and the car is simply not designed to take that much. i do intend on doing the awd conversion on my car though. all that hp is no good if your burning your tires when you floor it. i want to move foward when i drop the clutch

but on that note i do wish you luck on your project. i don't want to sound like an ass for saying things like that about your project. im really just trying to point out things that can go wrong cause i hate to see people pour that much money into something and have it blow up in their face.

go to hahn's website, their car is daily drivin with thousands of miles on it, and hundreds of full on drag strips with no problems with 500hp. thats y they tell u to upgrade the internals. read the stuff about the 420a motor on their site they say the motor is perfect for that kind of output. i dont think they would lie when they have had many of years of testing and more testing. but i guess its possible they could be wrong.......???? plus i would never run it at 500hp every day, i would keep the boost down low untill i want to race. but thats just me.

you know, he's right. The rep on the 420A motor is better than our 6G73's. Any engine that has its ports bored and has the internal mechanics like the cam rod, the connecting rods to the pistons, the springs, the cam floor, rocker arm, etc. forged or at least coated to prevent damage from heat, etc., can handle a more powerful, faster combustion within the intake/exhaust chambers. in fact ive seen a guy take some cruddy toyota camry LE 1986 I4 engine and boost it up to 289FWHP. Yeah, that might be small in numbers, but for an engine thats probably 100HP stock, and that was NEVER meant to accept crammed air is quite impressive. He even did the porting himself, which wasnt bad for a DIY job. I'll have to post some pics of the engine sometime, it looks sleeper, all dirty and dusty on the outside, but when he took the camshaft housing cover off, everything was shining like mirrors.

I'd say running at 340HP daily driven with your drivetrain converted to AWD, 80 on rears, 20 on front, or similar, would be optimal. With a little diet, and a nice lightened flywheel and short shifter, you could be making 13's easy. 500HP on an avenger would be killer, you should go to the tracks and see what you get. I'd bet no one would even think about you getting a 10 on 1/4 mile.

Getting a short shifter from B&M for X-Mas :grinyes: and im not sure if ill be doing the awd conversion bc it will be soooo much money and work past what i want to do but unless some one can get me info on how to do it for cheaper then i might. but im deff gonna take it to a track after im done and i will deff let you guys know my numbers. i will be custom making traction bars to help out with the spining tires for at the track and ill be running slicks with traction additive to also help the traction problem.:grinyes:

what i was also saying is that you have to make sure the car itself is upgraded too...ive seen a few twisted drive shafts and totaled transmissions in my days at the track also with that kind of power your most likely going to need suspension upgrades but that can wait until you see what happens when your floor it
