ive got a 99 escort,, problem is idle drops when in gear and ac on,, rough idle to say the least,, ive seen a lot of post on this and followed many of the ideas,, iac cleaning egr,, maf sensor cleaning,, guess what , i caught a thread about disconnecting the wires on the bottom of the ac compressor,,, it worked,, the poster said something about ac pressure switch.. what do these wires do,, whatever they do it stoped all idles problems ,, purrs like a cat now,, but i need to know a little more to fix the isolated problem on the other end of these wires,,, what do i change out,, ac presure switch,,, anyone know what a\may cause this problem, i think from what i can tell many people have changed a lot of parts dealing with this problem and i think they were led down the wrong road,,, help us all if youcan,, thanks,,, be careful guys and if you cant be careful,, name the baby after me,, laterrrrrrr////:smokin:

It could be that your compressor is getting gunked up. Can you tell a difference in power at higher rpm? Rev it up to to 3-4K rpms and let it return to idle. Listen for abnormal sounds coming from the compressor.
If the compressors internal parts are wearing or getting gunked up, then it may have difficulty operating, which would account for the extra strain and loss of rpm.

DOn't think I said that clearly, but you should get the idea.

Hmm... clarify... did the wires you disconnected disable the AC?

Seems I got ahead of myself. If the AC is still operating after the wires are disconnected, then disregard that last post.

If the wires you disconnected were to the low pressure sensor, then it seems you can be pretty sure your problem lies there. The wires could go to a high pressure sensor though... so be sure you know which one you unplugged.

If the AC is operating with those wires unplugged, does it cycle on and off normally? Are you sure that the AC compressor still engages?

ac still cools,, i havent had time to leave it on to see if its cycling wiil do and get back to you... previous post i discussed said it has to do with the amount of vaccum the wiring causes is very high ,, didnt know what he was talkin about and he diidnt elaborate on complications withthis fix,, his intent was not clear but acted like leaving it unconnected was alright,, it has three wires on the harness whit and grenn white and blue and an orange color if its not dirty,, i assumed it was the pressure switch on the drier,,,,
