Ok well im 16, i drive a Sterling 825SL right now, nothing special but it gets me around and is preety nice and everything, anyways I am looking for something cheap like no more then around 5-7 grand. I would take a american muscle car to smoke the fags at school that drive the hondas/acuras and think they are fast. Only thing is gas efficeny, and im not the best fan of domestic but i like old muslce cars. Basically I like AWD cars so I can go somewhat offroad and i like the handling , but it doesent have to be, i was looking at either a 87 supra, a honda RT4WD wagon, a older AWD subaru ( i love subarus but no money for a newer one), a DSM (dont know much about them just that most are AWD), or a older Audi cause thats what my brother has and he loves it, in conclusion im looking for something cheap, AWD but dosent have to be, easily modded to get fast, and something your everyday person doesent have
thanks
thanks

everyone has one...
everyone wants a unique car easy to mod for cheap..
that's why they drive hondas cause they are cheap ...
an old audi would be good.. or an old toyota..
but keep looking

hmm... i would say an old RX-7 TII.. (FC) with a few bolt ons etc... :) you would be burning past any honda/acura/domestic your school may have. for a 10+ year old car, i think it looks pretty damn good.
i just hope u are a gearhead.. esp with rotary engines..
its not often i see a TII on the streets..
good luck finding one.

I like the 944 idea, those cars are dope. Hard to find though, and I dunno if you can find a good one for 5 to 7 grand. Also, if something breaks on it, it's really expensive to get parts for.

i heard rotary engines only last 100k miles or something like that?
auto-drive
09-15-2002, 05:43 PM
more like 60-80k miles :(
but thats mainly for the turbo charged rotaries. if you were looking into getting an N/A rotary.. those things are about bulletproof as you can get.. with the right maintenance that is.
944 are nice too. but something to think about.. whos gonna fix it for you? im not sure about the old porsches, but i dun think that the local gas station is equipped to repair a 2002 911 turBo.. you would need to go to a specialty car repair shop. and thats gonna cost you some major $$$

If you're on a budget, you're going to have a difficult time finding a unique and eality modifiable car. I wish you luck.

once again i have to agree with yog..
the reason all the modable cars are popular is cause they are easily modable..

if you don't mind taking your time i would suggest an older rx7 like we talked about.. it's modable, but still packs some nutz to start off with ..
but unless you import something, you'll always end up with something, someone already has..

well I just didnt want a honda or acura like everyone else has, something they wouldnt expect to be beaten by, since they are mostly stuck up and think they have the fastest cars in the world it would be fun to be smoking them

if you want to get something someone can always think they can smoke then get a hyundai or a kia or something along those lines..
the new tiburon isn't bad..
i would never think to bother with one of those.. but they got some nutz..

Yeah the porsche isnt a very cheap car to own, cause it costs tons to fix. If you want something fast cheap and original... get a datsun 510 and drop in a turbo rotary :)

There are some genius recommendations for you here.
RX-7s are the BOMB! If you have never driven one, you need to take one for a spin. Rotaries are absolutlely lovely. So smooth and spin up fast and high!
Some one mentioned a 510 with a rotary. Before that, I was thinking a 510 with a Buick Grand National engine (Sick sick sick twin turbo V6). Thinking of which I saw a Typhoon on Ebay for cheap, that is a AWD S-10 Blazer with Twin Turbo V6. That would kick any high school budget honda.
Stay away from old Audis and old Porsches. You don't have enough money to play with them! I love AWD and I loved the Gruppe B Audi rally machines. My first car was a 78 Audi 5000. German cars are EXPENSIVE to fix. My Audi, Jetta and Mercedes have taught me that lesson. My uncle had a 944 that he bought for 4 grand. Put 4 grand into it and sold it for 4 grand.
I love AWD, wanted a Quattro for years. Figured out that Subaru had AWD sorted out for less that it would cost to keep up Audi Quattro. That is why we have a 2002 Legacy GT Wagon!
Subaru XT Turbo Coupe or 6 cylinder Coupe with AWD BUT WITHOUT THE PNEUMATIC SUSPENSION might be a good choice.
Also, look into Merkur XR4Ti. I think that comes with a Garret T3 turbo. That seems to be a popular with grassroots racers and was popular in as the Sierra for rally and road racing.
You might also look into a SAAB turbo. If you are going to go with a front wheel drive turbo car, I think that SAAB makes some of the best.
Other fun cars are VW Corrado, and Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe (Super Charged V6)

You might wanna take a peek at the Euro market. Right now (if you can afford a newer car) the market is having a horsepower race. Especially in the German industry. Even the lower ranking cars are putting out more than Pamela Anderson on Friday night.

I've never heard of that car...
I was going to suggest a Datsun 240z w/ L28et swap (bolts in) or a SBC V8 swap...
Or a 510 with SR20/Rotary swap :p
Hell, a 240Z with an SR20 would kick ass too :)
