Silicone aids rusting on metal?

Hi. I heared from only a couple people that silicone will actually cause metal to rust more than it would if it was always wet.

My problem is my antenna leaks water into my trunk of my 90 integra ls 4 door. The leak seams to make its way to, obviously, the spare tire area and I think it gets into the back seat from there too.

Is there an alternative to silicone that con be smeared around the base of the antenna on the inside to seal that? Something weather and heat/cold proof that can be scraped off if I had to replace the antenna? Or is silicone really not bad to use on metal body parts?

Thanks for any suggestion.

Its not the proper way to fix it, but no silicon does not inhibit rust.

i would just fix the problem... but you can buy automotive grade waterproof sealers at any place that sells paint and body products

:smokin: well thanks for responding you guys. I happen to have some silicon right now. As soon as it stops freakin raining, I'll give it a shot.

I had another question... Will those rubber plugs (1.5" diam. approx) under the rear seat cushions be ok if i silicone those up too? I think those may also be a source of a little leak. :banghead:

Thanks again

once again... a tube of silicone sealer wold probably be more expensive than just buying new seals... so why not fix it right?

:banghead: A tube of silicon cost more than new seals? What's my freakin problem. :screwy: I tend to think I'm not that much of a moron, but somehow I always seem to surprise myself. That's the kind of technical information I was looking for. Thanks, Green.
