i have a 2000 focus and lately the lights have taken to pulsating and it appears the more load the more pulsating. now a new problem has surfaced.the lights will sometimes cut right out and then come back. when the car is first started the charge light will go out but voltage at the battery is only battery voltage until you rev up the engine and then it settles in at about 13.8 v and then the charge light comes on but the voltage remains up..occasionally you can put the light out by reving the engine but not always.

Check all the connections to the alternator to make sure they are not corroded or loose. The regulator may have an intermitant fault.

had the alternator tested and found it to be no good. put a new one on and still had some problems. i finally tracked it down to one of the 3 small wires that go into the plug and found one had broken just where it enters the harness. thanks for your help sam
