Car: 2001 Pontiac Firebird V3 3.8L
I am looking for a CAI for my car. I been googling around a lot and I cant seem to find anything that is priced accordingly.
I have found 2 CAI's, one being K&N ($315) and the other one an SLP Cold-Air Induction Scoop ($138).
Both are completely different:
K&N:

SLP:

K&N is the one I been seeing on every car, the tube with the filter etc but the SLP is different, its like a rectangle etc.
Whats the different between both of them?
I am inclined to buy the SLP because of the money but i am not sure if its as effective as the K&N. Could you guys please guide me in buying an intake? It would help me a lot. Thanks.

i think what you found from SLP is not the filter or intake itself, its the CAI box. i think after the box, you still need a new filter.. which is probably why its so cheap.

I'm not a big fan of SLP as a company but that's just my 2cents

Well first.
The SLP kit is a Cold Air induction the colder moves air from the bottom air dam to the filter box creating slightly more power.
The K&N FIPK2 Kit is package that removes and replaces the "stock" airbox with a new filter type and tubing. This packages make a 6.5hp difference shown from the dyno charts.
Unless you have the RamAir Package (or functional hood) I would go with the SLP. Only because the "regular (non-ram)" hood has a restriction to upper airflow.
