came across a yard/garage sale today and what do i see a shiny 3rd gen camaro for sale but no price. so i start to talk with the owner about the car and he says it start but only if you hold the steering wheel up else it wont turn over. Does that sound like an easy fix or just the beginning of a bigger problem?

Probably a bum actuating rod.

It's a common problem. Just drop the colum shield, remove the two mount nuts, and down comes the column. The rod runs the top span (right side, left is to the high beam switch) On my first Maro I had this problem, and with the shield off you would have to turn the key and reach underneath for the rod and push it down to get her started.
