Stef,
Only the gas-powered ones "suck". The rest (diesels) just move air... Perhaps, if you had a logical argument as to how you arrived at such a conclusion, you MIGHT be taken a little more seriously.
However, slamming the largest American marque, especially in a performance-oriented site, is foolish AND inaccurate. No Ford or Chrysler product without a supercharger, can TOUCH either a Corvette OR a GTO (neither of which have a blower). No Jap car has the class ANY American car has, as most are knock-offs of previous American designs. Those Nissan and Hondas so many talk about, are similar in appearance to late '90s Caddys.
SO, lay off the insults. If you have specific claims about why they "suck", please provide them. If you simply prefer the non-GM products, that's fine. It takes all kinds to make a world. But your personal preference does NOT mean the others are bad, it just means YOU don't like them.
PAX

No, I said its not proper or right to bash/flame on ANY car maufacturers, because they, appearently arent here to defend them selves.
As I also said, its fine to voice your opinions, though you might not get the results you were looking for.
You didnt have to buy GM, maybe you should have done more research before your purchase. Or had the car thoroughly inspected by an independant shop.
And to be honest all cars suck if its been abused, not refering to you , but preveous owners could hav neglected many things that in the end, you were stuck with the bill.
I have had LOTS of problems with my 99 SE and it wasnt my fault. Mostly design errors.
But I Do blame the stealership that worked on it, they didnt follow proper proceedures in diagnosing and repairing my troubles. Just throwing parts at it.
So, I did the right thing, and filed a report to the BBB every time they screwed up at my expence.
Now that Dealer has New qualified techs, but would I ever go back thier, NO!
I also got back ALL $1800 of my extended warrnty.
But it cost me more time and money then that, with Lawyers fees, and it never went to court.
Good Luck with your GA Stephanie !

I normally don’t respond to anyone that would talk to a female in such a condescending manner (it’s just not nice and it makes you seem a little low brow) especially considering you have no idea what my GM has put me through. Don’t judge me until you have driven 56,000 miles in my piece of crap car. Until then, you just don’t know, now do ya????
My Grand Am has given me nothing but crap since it was new.
When it had 2,000 miles on it, it just wouldn’t start one morning. Turned out to be PassLock. For some reason (that no one at the service department at any of 3 different GM dealerships I took it to) the car thought I was stealing it. The security light blinks for 10 minutes, after that it will start. The theory on that is if you’re stealing the car, you won’t wait around for 10 minutes. This is still going on. Not very often, but enough that it really ticks you that occasionally you have to wait 10 minutes to start your car.
Around 5,000 miles the drivers side window just fell down into the door. No reason for it at all.
Around 7,000 the sunroof wouldn’t open. It was a gear and it was under warranty. All that took from me was my car for 1 day – not a big problem, but it shouldn’t have happened.
I, for the most part, stopped even bothering to keep track of the mileage when things screwed up thereafter.
Driver side window fell again. The overhead light just fell out – I didn’t touch it, it was because the sunroof hit it wrong. The sunroof was out of line. I should tell you here that this car has NEVER been wrecked. My Grand Am and my 2001 Firebird are the 2 single most pampered cars in the world. These are 2 beautiful cars. I fell in love with them and couldn’t decide between the 2…..so I bought them both at the same time. They are very well taken care of. I have never once neglected their care. I have treated them both the same and one has given me nothing but hell and the other one only had a window off track a little bit one time.
Why is the Grand Am a huge pile of junk and the Firebird is fine? They’re both 2001 3.4 liter V-6.
According to GM, it’s because I neglected the Grand Am. That’s what they say is the reason for the problems all these millions and millions of people are having.
I know it’s not true.
Anyways………back the problems it’s had……..
The Catalytic converter had to be replaced around 30,000 miles. I live in Atlanta. Anyone familiar with this area knows that if you get on 285 and can’t go faster than 45mph, you may very well wreck and die. But, the good Lord answers prayers….so I lived.
The trim around the back bumper keeps bulging, it’s been fixed 4 times. It keeps happening, it won’t stop. It’s not a good look. But, it’s not terribly noticeable.
The blinkers didn’t work half the time. Now, this was a recall. But until it was, I almost got rear-ended quite a few times. Some of those people gave me the bird. It wasn’t even my fault. But that’s over now.
Sometimes it won’t let my keys go. I have to cuss at it for a few minutes, then it lets go. Again…..no one knows why.
Then one day I put it in gear and that little piece of plastic broke. Not a good look, but not a big deal.
The window gets off track sometimes.
The passenger seat won’t lock in position most of the time.
And probably some other stuff I’m forgetting about.
And of course the overheating issue that started this whole thread.
I didn’t deserve any of these problems because I take excellent care of my cars.
Those are all the reasons I need to believe that GM’s suck.
Right, Jim?
Never imply I'm making baseless accusations......I've put up with a lot of crap from that car and I've met people who have GM's as well that have been put through a lot of stress. They can get very expensive in repairs. My car has 56,000 miles on it. It just ticks me off that I've spent so much money on scheduled maintenance to make sure my cars are in perfect condition, only to spend another 8,000 on repairs that GM blames on me saying I didn't take care of it. If you like them, Jim....by all means buy one.
Based on my particular problems with this car, it may not even be so much a matter of GM making an inferior vehicle as it is that mine just happens to be possessed of the devil. But there is a problem with my car that is NOT my fault in any way.
I'm going to pick up my car from the shop, put a huge dent in my bank account and then go home.

Well if you bought the car NEW you should have called you a Lawyer and made the Dealer eat the car!
But now its a little late for the lemon law to work :(
The 3.4 in your Firechicken is NOT the same engine as the 3.4 in your GA. :nono:
I'm very familar with Atlanta, you have what 8 lanes now one way, the 65mph, 75, 85, 95+mph to your left ? Cops sit on the median waiting for the wrecks ?
May I ask where your car was Made, what state or country?
If your key is sticking in the ignition, then you do have other troubles, and that would also be why you security light does what it does not letting you start it.
Too many things hanging on your key chain is another problem that causes your ignition to faull up.
Hey, Dont feel like you're the only one who's had all these problems.
Take a look in the Grand Am forum and you will see 1000's of posts on the same topics and grippes that you have with over heating, windows falling etc etc.
IMO You're just taking it way to personal.
You know, GM the company didnt go to the factory and tell thier emploies to do shabby work, and "make everyone pay", it just happens.
Maybe to offten, but that was Your choice to buy the car, and not part with it at the first sign of trouble(s).
ALso IMO the 2001 GA's are the Worst of all GA's.
Sorry if I sounded condescending, I wasnt trying to be.
I did used to work for a GM dealer back in the late 80's early 90's and this is exactly why I got out when I did, and went to work for myself. Not because of the GM corp but due to bad customer service at the facility I worked at.
What I called milking the customers when warranty work was done.
Hopefully your troubles will subside and give you less fits. But this is the place to find info on your GA for future assistance.

Stephanie 2671,
Alot of us are probably adamant in your opinions of GM and the unfortunate problems you are having with your Grand Am. However, the tech forums are not the place to bash, flame or make insults. If you need help then post your problems in a civil tone without curse words or a bad attitude and I am quite alot of members will be glad to listen and help. Also, it is very unwise to call out an AF Moderator as you did in this thread. This is deemed as a non-contributory post.
In the meantime, please do not make any more threads/posts of this nature in any of the Pontiac or N Body forums. If you open another thread and continue to rant then I will be forced to take action against your AF account. Sorry but to head off any further argument I have closed this thread.
