97 lumina dash lights-ON then OFF??? HELP!!

Hello Everyone,
Some time back I unhooked Daytime Running Lights, because they weren't working properly. Ever since doing this my dash lights will work only intermittly.
I 've noticed that when I turn them on for the first time, when leaving to go somewhere they will remain on, but if I turn them off or have to stop right-a-way they will not come back on.
It seems if the lights are left off for say 10 minutes(without engine running)they will come back on when car is restarted.
I've got a Haynes book but it doesn't show wiring going to Service Center under hood. Since I've unhooked DTRL's, Haynes view is incomplete.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram that can be emailed? Also I forgot to mention, it's a 3.1 engine.
