Lifters Chirping ????

Ok I had posted here about a week ago discussing ticking noises. So I went with the Mystery oil and it seemed to help. My work has pulled me away lately so my wife now drives it. It seems now the lifters are making a really loud squeal and chirping noise. I explain this to a freind and he said that I need to just tighten the loud lifters or rocker arms. The guy at the auto parts place seemed to think that's what it sounds like. As I said in the last post I'm just learning about cars at this point

So I'm ready to give it a try But I do not know how to adjust the lifters. so does anyone know how to adjust them? The guy at the Auto store said it is was 1/4 turn back form closed.

Take care,

I think it would be safe to say most lifters don't squeal or chirp. Before taking off the valve covers and cranking on any adjustments, I would as some have suggested, do an oil change. For a quick test also, take off the serpentine belt, momentarily start it to see if any of the equipment driven by the belt is making your noise. If so, the noise will be gone. Then go from there. I would not dive into valve covers etc., before being sure where the noise is actually coming from. In addition, rocker arms normally don't drift out of adjustment.

Thanks for the response and sound advice.
Oops to late! I took the valve cover off! but I did not adjust anything (thank God) I was able to varify that the noise was coming from the second Rocker arm etc.. So I put the valve cover back in place so now I'm going to go ahead and change the oil and use Marvel mystory oil and see what goes on from there. I will let you know how things go. A theory of a mechanic friend of mine is that when the van low on oil it may have caused damage to the lifter it'self and could be prove fatal over short distance. He says it will probrably cost more to fix then what the van is worth. I really hope he is wrong.
Thanks again 1

I tried the mystery oil and others. Then I started buying low octane gas. That stopped my noise. After years.
