Does anyone know anything about the B16B? The Swapping Guide says

Often regarded as the best 1.6 liter engine in the world, the JDM Civic Type R engine is the rarest of them all. Producing a whopping 185hp @ 8200 rpm and a reasonable 120 lb.-ft of torque @ 7600 rpm and being naturally aspirated, it is technical marvel. It was only available on the 1999-2000 Civic Type R and having one imported will run you easily into the $6000+ range. But you will be WELL respected and large thief magnet when ppl find out. If you have the money and like spending it on high octane gas for your 4 banger, why not?

Other than that, I would love to know if it's VTEC or not, does it take well to boost, is it hard to convert, will parts from the other B series easily swap into it if need be, ect. I haven't been able to find much info on it other than the guide. I'm thinking about swapping to a B series seeing as how finding the Z6 for a decent price is proving to be a hit and miss thing. I'm between doing the OBD 1 B16A or doing the B16B, my biggest problem is how well am I going to be able to modify the engine and how easy will it be to find parts. Any and all info will be helpful so let me thank everyone who can help in advance.

(Edited to correct B18B to B16B)

its a b16b. it is a vtec, but its so over rated. The compression is already do high that you cant make much more power without making mods to the inside of the motor. The b18b is the acura integra LS motor. 1.8L non-vtec. It has low compression and is a good turbo platform. It is also way cheaper than a b16b. Actually, any b series motor is better than the b16b as far as power/price ratio is concerned. For what you pay for a b16b you could have a very nice turbo LS setup

IMO, all you need to know about the B16b is that it is expensive and won't be any fun unless the car it is in is very light since the engine has NO torque. Personally i would much rather buy and boost a B18B for the same price....

---all you get w/ the CTR engine is a name.....

way overpriced. If anything just get the jdm B18c (SiR-G) and build that instead. If only has 5hp less than the b16b, but you'll save $.

less top end hp yes, but more midrange torque

I tried to edit my post and add a little more info, but AF froze up on me last night.

But the physical B16b block is also the same as the B18c5 block, it's just a destroked engine (different crank, rods, and pistons). Infact Spoon Sports sells the jdm B18c crank, rods, and pistons in a kit; to use in the B16b as a stroker kit of sorts.

Ok, did the B18B (yes I mean the 1.8L) come w/ OBD 1 and is the swap as simple as the B16A? I know I can swap the harness and go to OBD 2 but in NC there are a lot of advantages for staying OBD 1.

yes there is an obd1 b18b, and yes it just as simple (technically more simple because you don't have to do the vtec wiring). Not sure why it'd matter if you were obd1 or obd2.
