Velocity: Supercar Revolution book

The book is titled Velocity: Supercar Revolution by John Lamm. (http://www.amazon.com/Velocity-Supercar-Revolution-John-Lamm/dp/0760325960/sr=8-1/qid=1163702371/ref=sr_1_1/102-2336118-7406549?ie=UTF8&s=books)
It has some quotes about most of the cars by Jay Leno. Oversized coffee table book (12"x11") with about 352 pages, most have color pictures.
McLaren section: pp 173-194. Shows several pictures of an LM w/ New York license plate DFE-9137. (I'll let the sleuths figure who owns this one.)

I flipped through this book tonight at Barnes&Noble and was very impressed. I would have brought a copy home with me, but they wanted the cover price of $50.00 and I recalled that Amazon's price was closer to $30.00.
Anyway, there are a few new shots of the Clinic Model that I had not seen before. All the shots of the LM are new and very nice. I have little doubt the car is Lauren's because also featured in that chapter of the book are photos of one of Lauren's F1 road cars. Additionally, the odometer on the LM is reading in the 4100 range and I don't think any of the other LMs including the prototype, have come close to traveling that far.
Initially I thought the F1 road car photos were shots of chassis #055 as the car is silver and has the high mirrors, however the driver's seat in the interior shot is a solid carmel/brown color which leads me to believe that these are instead photos of #074.
I'll be ordering the book now and once it gets here I'll try to share the images inside as best I can without a scanner. (Maybe I should order one of those too. :loser:)

It arrived this afternoon - had a quick flick through - geez its a hefty book. I dont think i can get any scans going unless i break the spine, and after spending out £25 on it and its this close to Xmas, not sure my wife would be too happy about me getting another one for keeps and destroying the one received today :p ......
The shots are ok, like Erik said some are new. It doesnt look like Ralph driving it on the first page you see the F1LM , perhaps that shot is of its first owner, the UK / Scottish one...
Ps - Erik the odo says 4518....

RL has better things to do than pose in his car for Mr Lamm. The driver is more than likely a caretaker of Lauren's collection or a friend of the photographer. I've done the driver duties for an professional automotive photographer before - I even l found myself behind the wheel on the cover of a fairly popular magazine one time.

Thanks - I knew my number wasn't accurate and planned to correct it when my copy arrived. Cheers!

You consider Playgirl a "popular magazine"?
Here are some very quick and very iffy photos of the pictures in the book that i've just taken (in order as they appear in the book, starting with the cover)
Wasn't there also a shot of the Clinic Model taken from behind and overhead with a road running off in the distance? I remember really liking that particular one.
Also, if you meant to make those images clickable thumbnails to larger shots something didn't transfer over correctly. :2cents:

My copy of Velocity arrived today as well. :bigthumb:
All I have done so far is flip through some of the sections, but what a great book it seems to be. I'll read through the McLaren section a bit later to make sure there's nothing blatantly wrong in the text, but I suspect that I won't find much. If you like fast cars and have room on your coffee table this book seems like a wise purchase. :)

Sorry - wasn't really avoiding the question. I didn't have anything hosted that I could share at the time. I was not able to find a digital version of just the magazine cover, so I took a photo of the plaque that some friends had made for me to commemorate the experience.

If you anyone is not familiar with the SMZ I can give the basic story. It was essentially the 25th Anniversary Edition of the 300ZX put out in North America in 1995 to celebrate 25 years of the Z-car in the USA. Nissan tasked the modification of these cars to race-legend Steve Millen's company, Stillen Motorsport. They didn't make any really significant changes, but did add the body mods you see in the photos which I thought were fairly well done, and they increased the power by 65hp over the stock 300hp found in the Z Twin Turbo. The wheels were unique and the suspension also saw some fine tuning along with bits of the interior. The cars were fairly rare, but also fairly expensive at nearly $60,000.
If you'd care to know more I found scans of Car&Driver's SMZ article online:

Just read through all the text in the section on McLaren - nicely done. I only take issue with the 231 mph quoted top speed. I understand that's accurate for an unaltered road car, but I think the text should have made some mention of XP5's 240.1 mph run at the Ehra Lessien track in 1998.
I also wish that the photo of the road car and the LM side-by-side wasn't cut off at the top and that the interior shot of what is probably #074 was larger so we could actually read the chassis number. Oh well...

BTW: The side bar on Jay Leno was cool - he mentions that $1,500 wiper blade again.
