Been awhile since i last posted :nono:

Anyway, i still lurk around these parts and read the threads etc and see some fantastic models being build....a credit to you all :grinno:

Phil emailed me asking if this event was still going to go ahead this year. The answer is YES!!.....I'll still be running the event this year.
God knows were the last 12 months has gone!!
Been a very busy year for me with my job, family, new house and my car. Havent even got a entry for the contest this year unless i get my arse into gear and finish the Camaro.

I'll post a thread shortly with the rules etc.
Remember it will be open to the first 50 cars entered. Entries will only be taken after 1st December 2006.
Only change from other years will be voting will only go for 2weeks instead of the usual 4

Take care
PMan

Oh, wow- it's P-Man!

Cool, that means something more to look forward to for New Years. Recently, it's been how I've started my year. Just hope we manage to get more entries this year- last year's participation was kind of meager. :uhoh:

Just as a thought for consideration- I have absolutely nothing against Phil or his builds, but I've been wondering if it might help encourage more entries if last year's (or previous years winners) were made ineligible to win. He (they) would still be obligated to enter :grinyes:, but only as exhibitors and not as competitors. If this doesn't seem a good idea, just say so (or say otherwise)- but I hate seeing people saying, "yeah, I can't beat Phil, so there's no point in entering". Honestly, this is not my way of bumping myself up the list- some of you may have noticed that I haven't actually finished anything this year . But the contest is always more fun when more people enter.

Incidentally, has the 50 entry maximum ever been reached?

Excellent!! I will try and complete something for entry. Good to hear you are still around Pman.

Sorry MPWR, I disagree. I think all past winners should be allowed to enter with a chance of winning again. By excluding them, it is like asking an F1 World Champion to just compete for fun the following year. just my :2cents:

Hi, Pman!

Good to see this thing is to go on!
I m actually even building on something to get done in time (this time), although i missed several deadlines already.

And MPWR, i get what you're saying in being intimidated by the reigning values (it's not only phil); it's also about 25 other and very very very talented modelers around the globe. So I think having the "exhibitor" thingy is actually measures for nothing. Let's do the MOTY and let's try to have the best possible entries.

Not only is that good for yourself (playing with the big dogs?), you might even win a price...
But it's also good for the AF modeling community.
Why don't we market this idea a bit around similar websites focused on modeling, those guys could enter too, no?

What do you guys think about the idea of spreading the word a bit in similar websites to showcase AF a bit ?

I think everyone should be able to compete, definately. I know I can't ever win, but I enter anyway. I think it's as much a community builder as it is a contest of the best models. I think that everyone that enters is doing their part of exhibiting the talent here, at all levels. AF is a community, this just an exhibition of each of our best models this year; not just the single best model of all our individual efforts.

The 'exhibitor' idea was really a joke. There's no way that previous years winners could be made to show anything, whether or not they'd be eligible for the contest (not everyone finishes something they want to enter every year). But generally their level of work is excellent, so it would be a shame not so see something from them.

As for the previous winners exclusion idea, it seems that no one builder here is really so much better than everyone else that anyone should be likely to win more than once- but yet it happens. It's possible that some entrants receive votes from notoriety- not that their entered build isn't excellent, but that because they've won before some voters will automaticlly consider their builds to be on a different level as builds from people who haven't won. Ideally it would be best to be able to do the contest entirely blind, so that only the quality of the build is considered and not the previous works or abilities of the builder are considered. But this is of course impossible, as we've all seen the entered models in the poevious years threads.

It's harder to jusdge a build on its own merits than to vote for the name of the builder attached to it. Ever been to an NNL? The last two I went to, every prize in every category went to members of the hosting club. Not I suspect because their work was all obviously better than that of any non-club members, but because people were voting for build they were already familiar with and for their friends. Great fun if your a member and you're voting for your buds, but not much of an objective contest.

As for inviting non members, I expect that anyone who doesn't regularly post here would be at a distict disadvantage. Besides, to be fair we'd also have to give non-members votes- and then it's not really an AF model of the year contest is it?

Like I said above, I have nothing against Phil or any other previous winners. But I would really like to see more people enter, and it would be great to see a really objective contest. If a builder wins more than once because his builds are obviously head and shoulders above everything else, then great. But a builder who wins also because they've won before is kinda boring.

And as I said before, this is only sugested as a thought to discuss. If people are happy with the contest as its been run before, than that's great also.

You're a champ Warren. :)
I'll enter something if I'm allowed. :p But don't worry Andy, a third fluke is not possible - is it?
