Oil Leak...

It starting leaking oil over the summer and I first thought that it was the rear seal...Over the past couple of months the leak has got worse....I also found out when it was up on a rack getting greesed that tho my rear seal was leaking it was a very very small leak..What we found the main leak tobe was a small thing to the drivers side of the oil pan..Its about the size of a fist (or close) and looks to have 2 hard lines going into it ???Oil cooling pump maybe??? It looks like its held on by 2 bolts...

Now, anyone got a idea on what this part is?? If so, does it have a seal that can be replaced?? and is it a royal pain to remove and fix?? From what I saw, it looks like it would be simple and fast to drop, fix and replace but, I also know that looking simple and being simple are 2 very different things LOL

Any Ideas/Help would be great as its dropping around 1qt a week of oil and its not real cheep these days.. :disappoin

I was looking around at Advance Online and came across a Oil Cooler Gasket Set for my Blazer for like 2.00$ and the gasket does look tobe the same size and shape of the thing thats leaking...Thought, this tabbit or info might help...

That "thing" is the oil filter adaptor. there are seals between the adaptor and the engine block, and also seals at the ends of the hoses. They are not expensive at a Chevy Dealer, and are not too hard to change.
Remove One bolt between the hose lines and pull them off. Remove two bolts from adaptor and pul it off. Drain oil first. Do it SOON or you will be sorry!!
Other possibility is the hoses are leaking and it is running to the end and dripping off the adaptor, in that case you need new hoses.

had a very similar problem 2 months ago with my 94 MFI4.3 they put the oil filter on the fender... and after numerous mechanics at work(Auto Zone) told me rear main... i finally found it!!! the lines that run from the filter to the rear of the engine looked as if they were nawwed on by the front differential... follow those lines back to the front dif. and take that plastic sleeving off of them... mine was leaking right in the middle on where that sleeve was... 87$ part from GM and 30 minutes and my oil leak was gone! surprisingly easy! be warned though if that is the problem and its underneath that sleeve... when you take that sleeve off the leak will worsen so fix it ASAP if you took that sleeve off to discover the leak... after fixing it and explaining it to a few mechanics they THEN mentioned those lines are notorious for leaking... the GM parts dealer didnt even look into his computer he just went straight to the rack and pulled the part... knew the Part No. by heart... MUST be a normally requested part!!!! good luck... hopefully youll fix the leak soon enough that your lifters wont start chattering like mine are now!

Had the same problem many years ago. 3 mechanics told me it was the rear main seal, take it to a tranny shop. Thankfully the shop mechanic was honest and told me what the real problem was and fixed it, just the oil filter adapter leaking.

Since then, I had to replace the lines once and I replaced the adapters seals while I was there.

Guess what happened within six months?

The damn lines developed a pin hole leak up near the oil filter. PC 7 to the rescue. I will be replacing it finally in the next month or so.
