coils and ignition

So I never upgraded an ignition system. Through talk with some people, they feel that the GM coil packs and secondary wires, coupled with the spark plugs isn’t a good set up. The GP engines aren’t getting a good burn. Does anyone have any information on this? I don’t know if I believe this gossip or not but seems worth it to ask the question. If you have any experience or actually have the numbers on voltages and percent burns in the cylinders that would greatly appreciated. If you have done this research before, what are your findings on other aftermarket set ups? What’s the best you’ve found? Or is the stock ignition set up ideal for the 99 series II 3.8?

IMO the stock ignition works fine and ideal enough. Hard to beat even with aftermarket systems.

I agree with bnaylor, GM stock stuff is as good as anything you can buy unless you're highly modded and exceeding the factory 6k rev limiter. MSD and Taylor stuff looks better, but doesn't really give any performance gains without a bunch of other mods. Put your money where it will help like a u-bend delete, hi-flow cat and reprogrammed PCM for starters.

Thanks for the input guys, any idea where I can get the u-bend delete and cat for a fair price, I want a good product, but I don’t have a lot of money. I can do the work myself; I just need a good place to buy? Any recommendations on brands? I've never used a PCM re-programmer, where’s the cheapest and best place to get one?
Thanks

For the cat and u-bend, go to a local exhaust shop. They can do it for the cheapest.

As for the pcm reprogammer, there is the powrtuner and hp tuner. The pt is more suited for our engines, but there will be a wait. I ordered mine a month and a half ago and still haven't got it. A site for it though is:

You can also buy an aftermarket re-programmed PCM as there are reputable companies that offer them.
