Just wondering if anyone gets depressed when they're tired. maybe depressed is the wrong word but just feeling down about certain things. I feel that when it starts getting late i start getting pissed at myself for some things i've done, or haven't done, and i just get really hard on myself. kind of like right now. i need to stop staying up late screwing around, i need to start studying earlier.

I agree with the gotta stop screwing around and start studying earlier, but otherwise i'm the opposite. I get really giddy when I'm tired. It progresses until i'm too tired to respond to external stimuli i.e. i'm passed out.

hell no. even when i'm alone i get giddy. I just laugh at myslef.

So heres a question. Chem test tomorrow. Do i bother studying now, or do i get a good nights sleep and study the two hours before class tomorrow? I've got Ideal gasses down (easy) but i suck at rxn's in aqueous solutions.

I get real irritable when I'm tired. Same when I'm hungry. I get it from my mom. Viscious family trait.

Steel, studying all night and depriving your brain of rest is just as useful as not studying at all. I've done it... it never works like you think it will. Once me and my roommate fell asleep during a test cause we stayed up all night studying. :disappoin

I'm the same way, and its fairly explainable. When we are alone we tend to think differently, we have less distractions. Therefore we end up thinking about ourselves, our lives, and unfortunately our flaws are usually magnified.

To answer you question about relating sleep and depression I'd say its the otherway around for me. When I am going through a period of depression I'm very tired because the lack of motivation in my life, therefore I just sleep. Another reason for sleeping is to avoid depression as our dreamscapes are scapegoats of reality.

I've got a mechanics test tomorrow, it's on centroids and internal forces. i'm gonna stay up to study, i can function pretty well on low sleep and if i get a few hours i'll be fine.

i get crazy when i'm hungry, and it's something that comes suddenly. i'll be a little hungry but not enough to make food, then i'll just get really really hungry and be rediculously cranky and have the biggest craving for meat.

kind of like right now, it's coming so i've got to go grab something before i wake my parents by cooking their legs

Same here. I thought I was going to be the first person to say this. A few weeks ago, I was really unhappy with my life and the way things were going and feeling completely unmotivated, and I was sleeping about 20 hours a day. That lasted about 3 weeks, and now I'm getting back on track.

But yeah, when I'm depressed I sleep a lot to escape the world.

Actually, you guys want to know something crazy?
Sleep deprivation is considered a cure for depression; about 60% of those who have been sleep deprived showed a complete reversal of depression.

However, seeing how a symptom of depression is insomnia, I guess the other 40% are shit-out-of luck.

Anyways, I always do all-nighters before a test; it definitely works better than getting a good nights rest, then taking a test. It doesn't matter if I have started studying for that test weeks earlier, all-nighters simply work better for myself.

As for the original question; frequently, at least once a week. I think of all the things others my age have done, and compare it to what I have done. I think that I should have studied more for that test. I think about all the stuff I still need to get done.
But, towards the end, I snap out of it and think about the options I have left.
I actually think more clearly when I am in that state. I feel like shit, but I think more realistically. I better "organize my life", and think about what truly matters, and what doesn't.
In all honesty, I wish I could feel that way more often, especially in mornings(maybe I can get more work done :)).

Thinking like that actually motivates me to work harder.

Lack of sleep can definately have an affect on your emotions. I tend to get mad/upset pretty easy when I haven't slept a whole lot in consecutive days.

usually i'm very chill, whether i got plenty of sleep or barely any. as far as functionality goes, though, sleep deprivation makes me partially retarded. basically, i can't even carry out a conversation correctly... and forget test taking. I do it often, though, averaging about 2 to 4 hours of sleep a night. there are a lot of weeks where i've gone 30 to 50 some hours without sleep. didn't affect my mood really, or my personality. just made me sound mad high.

haha so much for being sleepy ruining thought processes, i aced my mechanics test.... my chem midterm no so much but i wasn't expecting to do well anyways, it's not worth anything if you do better on the final, and i'm planning on acing the final.
