Okay I need some advice on this one. I purchased this car for $400. it has 102k on it and purchased it non running. It is non supercharged and had the upper plenum intake cracked and leaked coolant internally but does not appear to cross contimated. I resealed the lower intake gasket and replaced the plenum and still have a no start. I have heard that the crank sensors are common problems with these cars so I replaced that as well as the harmonic balancer as there was some cracking in the rubber (not failed though) So needless to say im back at square one. The car has 50lbs of fuel pressure and for some reason when pulling the vac line off the fuel press regulator there is fuel in it. I put a vac tester on the regulator and it will hold vacuume and not pull any gas through it with the vacuum tester? The fuel psi also does not bleed down. The car also has sufficent spark, I have ohmed out all coils and are not out of range. I pulled the plugs and cleaned and regapped them all to spec of .060. I also did a compression test and all cylindars show 180 except for 2 ajoining cylindars have 155 and 165. However with good compression I believe that the timing should be correct because the valves would be all closing properly. This one has got me stumped. The previous owner said the car started to run really rough and he drove it home and turned it off and it will now not restart. The previous owner has already had a new pcm installed, as well as the passlock igntion cylindar and keys. When trying to start the car it will pop and backfire, and act like it is trying to start but sounds mis timed or flooded? Its got me puzzeled also the fuel in the vac line has me puzzled as well. Any suggestions?

flooded is a good start. i dont know much about the NA 3.8 in the 95's so i am having a hard time visualizing the vac lines you are talking about. also when you replace or remove the CKP sensor you will need a CASE learn done. just find a nice guy at the dealer and borrow their tech 2 to do the relearn. but thats not until after you get the car up and running. so you've got power, spark, fuel (maybe too much), and air (maybe too little or too much). there are sensors that will keep cars from starting but then they usually at least crank normal.(like low oil sensor?). i dont know what else it could be...maybe the plug wires are bad or mis-routed? did you pull a plug after cranking to see if it was wet or dry? how about test it for spark the old fashon way?(ground the plug on the block and watch for a spark lol) and just to make sure, you did drain all the old oil and made 100% certain there was no coolant in it? maybe one of the more season'd guys can help you out more.

Yea I tried pulling the plug out and actually watching the blue spark on the plug. And yea ive checked the routing of the wires over and over, but that wouldnt keep it from firing just not running smooth. As for crank sensor relearn, what do you mean by that? This is still an OBD I vehicle, I was not aware of a relearn proceedure for it. Could a bad IAC cause this problem?

sorry i forgot it was OBD1 you may not be able to do a relearn. I dont think a bad IAC will cause a no start, just a high idle/stauling problems etc. you could pull the valve and clean it to rule it out.

Anyone out there have any other advice on this one. It still has me stumped. I thought for awhile it may be a timing chain problem because I would spray carb cleaner into the intake and crank it and it would just give a nice pretty flame and backfire. So I pulled the valve cover and checked tdc on cylindar 1 and both valves are in the closed position. When I did pull the valve cover off, the engine has a good amount of sludge in it but I dont think that would be enough to cause a valve to hang open and not cause it to start...It seems like it is out of time but good compression on all cylindars and the valves being closed at tdc say otherwise. Could it be a possible bad pcm?? With a scanner it does show timing advance or retard when cranking just 0. Any good Ideas out there..this one has me stumped.
