What should the pressure be in the stock-sized tires on my 88 Civic LX?
Thanks.

Look inside the glove compartment there should be a sticker. I'm pretty sure it 35 psi in front, 32 in back (if you have 13" wheels). I know my crx, which has 14" teardrops, says to only fill to 28 psi all around.

my old 14" and my new 13" both say 35 psi

Im looking at the sticker in the glove compartment. Maybe your looking at the tire itself. The thing that you need to watch out for is over-inflating. An incorrect tire guage, over-inflated tires, combined with hot asphalt highways can own you.

I believe what they post on tires is the maximum pressure it supposed to handle. And that's just it. Proper pressure for your car is in your owner's manual and on the sticker somewhere inside your car.
