Welcome to the forum!
The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) has the chime specifically for this, it performs a bulb check and it the system determines the bulb is faulty or missing, it causes the chime to alert the driver. They don't want an airbag to not deploy when necessary and risk a lawsuit from the owner claiming they didn't know there was an issue with the system due to a bad bulb.
Did you happen to not what Lamp Fault Code (LFC) the bulb was flashing before you removed the bulb? It should have flashed any active codes when you turned the key to run. For instance, a "flash, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash" then a long pause and any subsequent codes would be flashed out. The cycle will repeat. The prior flash code would indicated an LFC code 32 -- three quick flashes for a "3," pause, two quick flashes for a "2." These codes can help you determine what the SRS computer is determining is a problem.

The code 37 is a reported fault with the passenger side airbag circuit. There are numerous different potential meanings for a code 37. If you want to narrow it down more, you'll need a professional scan tool that is capable of reading the diagnostic trouble code. There are 4 body computer codes, but all four of those codes are covered by Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 37.
If you'd like the troubleshooting procedure for the code 37, send me a private message with the request and an e-mail for you that can accept PDF attachments.
