kind of a random thread because i'm really really bored. I have a problem, i always do everything i can to avoid doing homework and then in the last few hours i do it.... or don't like last week. so far i've watched ali g videos on youtube, researched polyphasic sleep patterns, looked through the entire mess of papers that make up my application to rotp (regular officers training plan, the military pay for your education and give you money monthly and you do some service after unviversity as an officer) and i've been doing some other random things.
who else has a chronic procrastination problem? and what's the strangest thing you've done to avoid doing work. i'd say the weirdest thing for me is apply to the military lol "i'm board i'm going to enlist"

beef: your doing engineering right? I'm with you there and i'm a CHRONIC and BAD procrastinator. I dunno what it is. I've had calc and chem homework due tomorrow....er...later today that i've known about for a week. I just finished my chem about 10 minutes ago, and havent started the calc yet.
I think engineers in general are procrastinators. I remember pretty much all of my eng. buddies back in the day being just as bad as you and I.
*edit* and I don't generally do weird things to avoid it, i just manage to find something else to do and rationalize it up the importance scale in my head. Like movie watching, cigarette smoking, girl flirting, and daydreaming.

yeah i'm in engineering, this week's rough. i've got my intro to engineering lab due tomorrow, chem midterm (not really midterm but worth the same, but worth nothing if i do better on the final) tuesday, mechanics (statics and dynamics) test worth 10% on wednesday, calc test thurs, chem lab thurs.
study schedule:
monday night: think about studying, realise that it's not worth anything if i do better on the final and remember that i got 58% on the last midterm type thing, then decide to surf AF and sleep instead.
Tuesday: during the day where i don't have any class other than 8:30-10:00am i'll be in the engineering study/socializing lounge called leonardo's (named after leonardo da vinci) constantly saying i'm going to study, then i'll find three people that are playing euker or hearts and play or a few hours, get home, think about studying, wait until about 11:00pm, open my books, go back to computer until 12:00, then study until i understand everything.
wednesday: nothing, i don't have a test until 12:30 on thursday so i'm not going to bother.
thursday: class from 8:30-10:00am, from 10:00-12:00 i'll make sure i can do the questions my prof gave us (he gives us pretty much the exact questions that are on the test but with different values), by the way my calc prof sounds exactly like borat, finish the test at 1:30, rush somewhere to do my chem prelab, realize it's huge, curse repeatedly, find someone to copy off of, wait until 15 minutes before the lab to actually start copying, finish 5 minutes into the lab, get there and find some lame excuse as to why i'm late, the TA won't understand anyways because he's fresh off the boat from china (seriously though, i can't understand a word he sais and i'm pretty good at understanding asians, i spent four years at a school with so many of them and i still don't get a single word he sais)
edit: just found out my chem test is wednesday, so i'll be doing that and the monday stuff is applicaple to tuesday

I procrastinated a lot until I got diagnosed with adult ADD...they stuck me on some meds and I don't do it anymore. I get everything done right away and I keep very detailed lists on what I'm doing for the day. I would surf AF a lot, mow my yard, play with my dog, and video games.
Maybe you could have a fear of success.

it's not a fear of success, i think it's just that i'm damn lazy. also this lab is using something that i'm having more trouble doing than normal, i'm normally good at doing challenging things but this is just too tedious and i can't bring myself to learn what i need to to complete the assignment.

i'm positive i want to be an engineer, i would try to work harder but this year's just so damn easy that i don't have any motivation. if i go to rmc i'll have alot less time and it'll be alot more structured so i think it'll make me work harder.

I try not to procrastinate. I did that when I first started college and didn't fair to well grade wise... especially in Calculus and Chemistry. I remember getting back from Daytona Beach spring break a few hours before a test. Coming through Atlanta, I was driving while everyone else in the car slept and the windshield wiper snapped off during a rainstorm. I had the dude who owned the car put the passenger one on the driver side and he taped up the metal arm on the passenger side. I drove an hour to the house, got there, studied for like 10 minutes, drove to the exam and got there late, and failed the exam...
After dropping out of college for a year I re-enrolled at a major university with an arts major and graduated top 10% of my class, never procrastinated and always get everything done on time. Now when I'm bored I just procrastinate until I have more stuff to do...

i think it may be an engineering thing. just surf online about random things, check out some forums and talk to people online. i always wait until the last second to do things. i have a break between 10 and 2 which i do just about all my work for rest of the classes that day.
luckily i've used to my advantage. i'm doing a research paper on scramjets which is one of the things i usually search for.

Its DEFFINATLY and engineer thing, and this post is proof of it
My advice, schedule some time between classes to go to the library or someplace quiet to get a little work done each day. 2 solid hours every day will do a lot to help your work and still allow you to do random shit.

Yep. Engineers = the laziest people in the world. I mean come on! They INVENT and DESIGN things to make ....everything easier!
