Hello, I have a 2000 Grand Prix 3.8 GT, I got a code P1887 on OBDII and I know what the code means, "TCC Release Switch Circuit", but what is it? and how can I fix it???? How expensive is it and is it something I can do myself???? Or where do you take the car to get serviced if I cant do it???? Dont have alot of money for repairs. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!

The torque convertor clutch engages and disengages at speeds above 45 mph to improve driveability and fuel economy. When the P1887 DTC sets it inhibits TCC operation, disables shift adapts and may even inhibit 4th gear (OD). In your case there is a TCC release circuit malfunction meaning the TCC is not releasing properly. It could be a control problem related to the PCM module, wiring or a problem with the TCC solenoid at the valve body. Any tranny shop or GM dealer can run further diagnostics with a trans capable scan tool.

If a part like the TCC solenoid is found bad then replacing it is not typically DIY. The TCC solenoid is located under the transmission side cover (left side) and requires major disassembly to replace.
