Remember the Nissan Mid 4 concept?

This is Fujimi's old kit of the 2nd gen. Mid 4 concept. I recently pulled it out of storage, it had the wheels removed for something else. Lo and behold, these weird Pegasus rims found a home.

Okay, it sits a bit nose-high, not an easy fix the way they route the axle. Maybe I can do something about that, maybe not. It really needs side skirts as the rockers seem pretty high up. I also used Pegasus brakes on it, and the center caps are...uh...photoetched CD's:D

Can't remember when this kit was introduced, but I built it when it came out...it's probably at least 10 years old. Looks like the love child of an NSX, Fiero GT, and a Z car. Interesting car, though not exactly earth-shattering. I don't think I've ever seen another one built. Why do I think if it were lowered, had some cool ground effects and a wing that it would look 10 times better? Right now she's just a bit plain vanilla. The rear 3/4 view seems to be the best on it.

That's one concept car that I'm glad stayed as a "concept". It looks NSXish (front), TESTAROSSAish (mid-section), and UGLYish (rear). Sorry never really that Nissan design. Excellent effort on your part for wanting to model it. Fujimi is really good at producing some variety in their model selection. Wish Tamiya would do so.

:D I was just about to say that it looks like a hybrid of a S13 Silvia, a new Silvia, a Testarossa and an NSX. But i like it though! I remember seeing a stack of them in a discount shop years ago. They were the only models in there and i wish i picked up a couple.

I'm thouroughly facinated by this car, and I can only hope I get to see one in a museum one day. As much of an NSX fan as I am, this car had the potential to do it one better. Not by being more exotic, but by simply cramming in more technology. Based on the Z31 300ZX chassis and powered by the Z's V6TT connected to an AWD system... http://forums.off-topic.net/images/smilies/bowdown.gif

Just FYI, the MID4 was introduced in 1985, and the 2nd version (which is your model, IIRC) was shown in 1987. The models were probably close to then. Did you build it from the Fujimi kit or the Testors rebox? I've ben wondering if there were differences...

Bob, would you be so kind as to get me a shot of the underside? :D

Thanks for the dates, I guess I built it longer ago than I remembered. It's the Fujimi kit, I don't think Testors boxed 2nd gen Mid 4 like they did the early version. I have that kit too (the Fujimi box), it's just...kinda dull. I'll get a pic of the chassis soon. Not much to write home about, I didn't do any detailing:(

In fact it was a mixture of a car. Nissan took the 959 and mixed in 1987 with the Testarossa when the NSX not even existed as a prototype (1989). I find it phenomenal as a design.Sorry guys , I know you all are really into tunning but I´m from the old school and the clean shape of this car is lovely.
In fact some years ago I offered Carl Beck to write for his page an article of these MID4 prototype , so if you´re interested in knowing more , you can go here:
[URL=http://www.zhome.com]

Then click on 1985 MID4 in the "Design History of the Z" section.

The Fujimi kit was released really much time ago.I have it in the 1990 catalogue of Fujimi but not as a novelty it may be previouly presented , `88 or `89.

Here I put the pics of mine.It was also built at that time and I plan to respry the rims.I made it with no much experience on modelling really.

Thanks for the link to the article. I was looking for a drivetrain pics like this for a long time: :flash:

BTW, Jose, is that your article? If so, excellent writeup! :)

Well thanks. After all my first career at college was English Philology (5years) ,therefore , I should be teaching English in Spain , but instead , I´m working as a Spanish teacher in Italy ! while I study there.

I know that I´m always repeating the same old song , but If you need pictures from any strange Japanese car just ask me. I should -in theory- be able to find anything interesting in my files.

Jose, I noticed the area around the rear window on your model is all black. Is that correct? If so I'm going to add that to mine, it does look better.

I also think I'll try to lower mine as well...the front end height just keeps bugging me...

yes Zoom Zoom , those details of the windows are all correct.Like in the real car. Anyway If you want me to send you all the pictures of the 1:1 car , just give me your E-Mail Adress and I send them to you right away.

Jay has reason, the bizarre undersurface hasn´t much sense not showing all the mechanicals but may be the Nissan guys thought in the mid `80s to cover it all to better the aerodynamics.Who knows!

If I would starting this kit , I would buy the Aoshima Nissan Cedric/Gloria Cima Type-II kit for getting the VG30E-T , and install it on the MID4 , and i´d paint it red metallic.
