Can anyone tell me the best way to change a water pump on the 3800. In the book it tells me that I need to remove a motor mount. Do I really need to do this and if so why? I need to do this as soon as possible because I don't have the money to replace the engine. Thanks!:banghead:

I replaced the water pump about 3 years ago in our white 97 Lesabre. Turned out to be a cheap and fairly easy fix. It did not take that long to do. The replacement pump was only $35 and it turned out to be fairly easy to put in. I do not recall needing to remove the motor mount. It depends on whether you have enough clearance to remove the bolts, etc. Might have to remove some bolts with wrenches rather than a socket and drive. Take your time and don't overtighten the bolts when installing the new one.
