Poor torque down low

I am hoping to find out about the difference in power delivery between older and newer model S2Ks.
I understand that from 2003 onwards, the engine's power delivery was made to be more linear and that the purpose of this was to improve torque at lower rpms. If this is the case, surely the beserker nature at higher revs of the pre 2003 model would have been lost. Essentially dampening the VCT rush.
Can someone who has driven both, please explain to me how they find power delivery comparisons?
