#@*$?()&^ auto-locking doors!

While browsing on another Focus oriented forum, I found a procedure (9 effing steps!) to "train" the car's computer to shut off the seat belt warning chime.
Does anyone know if there is a similar procedure to stop the car from automatically locking all the doors when the car starts moving, short of cutting the wires to the power locks? This just drives me crazy when I need to get something out of the back seat, and it is always locked.
Where I live, car-jacking is pretty much a non-issue.

sounds like it has to do w/ the cars alarm system, not the car itself.

To my knowledge I do not have an alarm system, apart from the "panic" button on the remote locking key fob.
Do your doors not lock as soon as the car moves? I thought that this was a "feature" that was built into the car, something that I am doomed to live with. Not so??????

I just learned to ignore the auto-lock, but my car was a ZX3, so I didn't have to worry about rear doors. At least with Fords auto lock, when you pull the inside door handle, the door unlocks and lets you out (except on child-proof rear doors). Not so with GM, the car has to be put in park or unlocked manually. Not a huge deal, but a PITA when trying to pick up or drop someone off at a curb.

The procedure to disable auto lock might even be in the manual, I believe it involves the remote. To disable the obnoxious seatbelt warning takes a Google search or search this board.

Sticking with the doorlock theme...we were travelling from NJ to FL and stopped in GA overnight. The morning was a little cool, so I decided to warm the car up for our 6 month old. Since the motel was less-than-savory, I took the key fob with me and locked the doors. To my surprise, the fob didn't unlock the doors. Had to call a locksmith to pick it open. I immediately consulted the owner's manual, and sure as sh*t, there it was. The receiver is disabled with the key in the RUN position. RTFM, but whooda thunk it???

Rather than trying to train the computer, you have to physically cut a wire in behind the glove box. I always prefer a hands-on solution over messing with a computer. (As always the trick is - which wire:lol:) Will try it first thing tomorrow AM.

Apparently, this hack/mod also allows you to lock and unlock the doors using the remote key fob, even when the car is running. Very handy on cold mornings here in northern Canada!!
