Wiring Diagrams?

Where is the best place to get a wiring diagram for our 2004 Taurus? We bought a Chiltons but it turns out that doesn't list hardly anything :(

I don't think Autozone.com will have any diagrams for your 2004 yet in their "Repair Guide" section. It would be worth a look though.

You local public library may have service manuals with wiring diagrams.

You may also want to consider Alldatadiy.com. For a reasonable yearly subscription, they offer access to information and diagrams from the factory service manual.

Doesn't Autozone own Alldatadiy.com? If they offered it in book form I would buy it. I will see what the library has, but I don't think they have any books on the DOHC version.

Yes, there is a business relationship between Autozone and Alldatadiy.com. What they offer is available in book form, is is called the Helms manual available online or from your dealership. The Alldatadiy information is from the factory service manual published by Helms.

I'm surprised to read this  We originally bought a Helms manual but the wiring diagram was very bad, so we exchanged it for the Chiltons (which is also bad). The we found out that one of the companies owns the other. Is the book you're talking about a separate book from the traditional repair books found at car parts stores?

Did you originally buy a Helms manual, or a Haynes manual? The Haynes manual is on par with Chilton, but the Helms is what the dealership will sell you.

I thought it was a Helms but it must have been a Haynes :p We'll look into ordering one. Thanks again :)

Not according to the dealership :p They said that dealers do not carry any kind of books or wiring diagrams. Went up to the library but they stop at around year 2000 (need 2004). I wrote to Haynes but they said they do not have a book on the Duratech engine either. I'll try contacting some book stores next :(

The dealer probably doesn't stock service manuals, but, at one time, the back of the owner's manual had information on how to order the service manual through Helms. Maybe they stopped providing that info.

That makes the $25 for a one-year subscription to Alldatadiy seem rather reasonable! It's the same data that would be in the factory service manual anyway.

Good luck with whichever route you choose.

I remember buying a service manual from Ford for around 200.00 around 10 years ago, but apparently they've stopped doing that.

Search the internet auction sites for Ford repair DVD. They might be bootleg, but they have the info you want. I have factory DVD;s and would not be without them.

Thanks for the idea way2old. Just bought the one pictured below. It covers every Ford, from 2000-2004, complete with wiring diagrams for each car. It was 15 bucks so we'll see if it's the real deal or if I just got scammed. My fingers are crossed :p

I have purchased CDs from a fairly popular auction site on the internet for several Ford/Mercury vehicles and have been very satisfied. I used them to augment my Haynes manuals.

Years ago I purchased a Helms set for my new 1983 Chevy Caprice wagon for $100. Well worth it. There was a separate manual just for the electrical wiring. I have not looked into Helms again since then. At that time the books had no photos, just line drawings. Haynes and other books I purchase have photos. The Helms of today may have photos, but I have been satisfied with the Haynes and the cost of $15 or so is a good deal.

Amazon.com told us that we could return our Chiltons (owned by Haynes) since they said my engine was in there and it's not. The book was wrong about every single thing that it said. Even the wiring diagrams were wrong. Thank God shorod saved the day for us. Thanks again shorod :grinyes:

If anyone wants to read about this 2000-2004 Ford DVD service manual you can find it here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150046570022). I haven't quite received it yet so I can't give a review, but so far the seller has a 100% approval rating and everyone loves the disks, so I'm optimistic :p

Looks good to me. I have the same DVD. You need to change the date on your computer when you use it though. Just change the month and year to the date on the DVD. If I remember correctly, all the red DVD's are time sensitive. If you can find a yellow one, they are open ended.

I asked the seller about this before I bought it, and he said that these were new and that I wouldn't need to do that. Even if I do it's no problem as I'll just make a special partition for the DVD and it should work great from there :)

If I remember correctly, all the red DVD's are time sensitive.
What was the reasoning behind having a time sensitive DVD? These cost almost 1500.00 from Helms and I'd be a slight upset if I paid that and had to change the date to use it :p
