stupid wiper question

This is a somewhat trivial question, but here it is... On my '93 lumina the windshield wipers (on the slowest setting) take about 18-20 seconds between 'wipes' however, I just noticed that the wipers on my '99 lumina LTZ are much faster, even on the slowest setting. On the '99 the time between wipes (on the slowest setting) is only 3-5 seconds. Why is this? It gets kinda annoying when you're driving in light rain and the wipers keep flapping when they aren't needed. I know what you're thinking..."just leave the wipers off and if you need a quick swipe, turn the lever back" but that gets really old really fast! I was just curious why there is such a large difference in the intervals of these two similar cars. Has anyone else with a newer lumina noticed this? Thanks!
