'94 Tracker brake warning light

The brake warning light on my Tracker came on the other day. The brakes still work fine. Also at the same time all the rear lights quit working, tail, brake, turn, even the side marker lights. All the front lights still work.
I don't think I really have a brake problem, it must be electrical. Any
ideas where to start looking?

Fuses, Chect the connection points on the wires for that particular circut, then check the grounds. If it is none of those check the entire length of the wires.

I had already checked the fuses. The gas gauge quit working too. I took the inner panel in the rear area off and where the wiring harness goes over the rear fender a squirrel had gotten in there and chewed through 9 of the wires, patched them back together and everything works again with no brake warning light. We have a real problem around here with the little red squirells tearing things up, I'm always picking walnuts out of the engine compartment of my Suburban.....
