Porsche 959 Turbo

Sup guys. This is my second post since I got back to modeling. It is a Tamiya Porsche 959 Turbo. I switch the original wheels with the wheels of the Porsche GT3. I think these look better plus they are a bit bigger which kind of gives it the appearance of being lowered. Either way here it is. My next model in progress is Aston Martin DB9 from MFH, so whish me luck. Comments welcome guys.

Great job! The wheels do look super cool, though I'm sure there are a lot of people out there screaming blasphamy at the mere suggestion of modifying an icon like the 959 in any way :grinyes:

I was about to do that! It still looks better with the original wheels. Seen a few in UK. I like the color on this 959 as I once built a Fujimi 1/16 scale with a almost the same color but with a pearl effect. Sad to say I had sold it.

By the way. it is a good built and I guess you will get even better on your next model.

I'm one of the lot who would scream blasphemy- but it does look like a nice build. It's my own personal prejudices that make me believe if it's not in Porsche silver and on stock wheels, it can't be a 959. :grinno:

As for changing the stance though, it simple and it dosn't take any surgery. All you need to do is make spacers for the rear wheels. Cut a couple of disks about 1/4" dia out of styrene sheet- 0.030" thick would be a good place to start. Drill a hole in the center of each about 3/32" dia, and then insert these spacers in between the rear wheels and the brake bisk hubs- the center pin of the wheels fits through the center hole of the spacer, and into the hub poly cap. Don't even need to glue them. This will widen the stance by a scale inch or so for each wheel. Need it wider? Use thicker (or more) spacers. And strip the chrome off those wheels and spray them flat aluminum! :grinyes:

I also have this kit, and am finishing it this week! It is light gray, with aluminum wheels (the original ones), and a maroon interior. Unlike you, however, I went to an absurd level of detail. To give a few examples, I...
Cut open the front lid, hinged it, and fabricated an entire trunk.
Hinged the rear lid, completely altering the final assembly of the model.
Added the two small fans that are mounted on the inside of the engine lid, using six pieces of soda can aluminum (per fan), plus plastic and wire. I cut out two little discs and cut eight blades in each one for the fans (the actual fans have 7 blades, but eight was easier).
Made warning placards for the rear, with an actually readable firing order sticker. (I couldn't make the text readable because it was too small).
Built four fuel rails and twelve injectors to replicate the dual injection.
The worst part--fabricated both intercoolers and all ducting (why did Tamiya leave them out?)
And more. I'll post pictures when I'm finished.
I would not recommend doing the things I did. It was hard and somewhat unpleasant. Your model looks good (but yes, please strip the chrome on the wheels).

I to have a 959 siting on my desk, its been a long time since I even touched it but I added the GT1 air intakes on the hood and hightend the rear spoiler slightly but intend on getting back to work on it sometime. Also thinking some BBS wheels would look good on myn.
