Hey guys. I need a new mass airflow sensor for my car.

Just wondering if the one I ordered from Canadian Tire will be top quality ( I phoned a few places, and they were all about the same price, but canadian tire is much closer then all the other places that I phoned.)

I was also wondering if I could get some installation instructions, since I dont want to deal with my mechaninic anymore, after I found out he was ripping me off (tried to charge me 350$ for a MAF from Napa, and when I phoned them they said it was 220$)

I saw them take the MAF out, and it seemed pretty easy (only took mechaninc about 3 mins to pull out)

Thx

Yep, 3 minute job. A couple of screws and a connector. It's almost like changing a headlight bulb, but easier.

First make sure you realy need one.
Have you tryed cleaning yours with MAF sensor or carb cleaner?
And make a few more calls or go online you may be able to beat that 220$

You might try here (http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1019630,parttype,5128). You can get the AC Delco rebuilt Part # 2133419 MAF for 130 bucks + core charge.

None at the boneyard?

Your cheapest option is a pull-it-yourself boneyard. At the one here in Nashville, a MAS would be under $10. As for prices on new/remans, at partsamerica.com the range is $106-$188 plus core charge:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=473&PTSet=A&SearchFor=Air%20Flow%20Meter%2FMass%20Air%20Sensor

At Auto Zone, you can get a Cardone brand for $127.99 with a core charge of $87.

If it were me, I'd buy at the boneyard until I found one that worked (most likely the first one will work).

So if I replace the MAF myself, will my SES light go off? Or will I have to manually reset it?

i'd take it apart and clean it..it worked for me..you have nothing to lose...that's all they do that's why they charge you a core charge...just make sure you unhook the battery as it can screw something else up...

You reset the PCM by unhooking the battery for at least 30 minutes. This ought to clear all the codes. But definately try to clean it first. You can use either carb cleaner, but electrical parts cleaner is best.

A junkyard MAF would be the cheapest way to go, but obey the laws of junkyard electronics and pick up two.

Otherwise, I use Ebay to find parts...

Every time I hear someone say "junk" yard, I crack up and have to tell this story.

About 15 years ago me and a friend went to pick up a tail light lens/housing for his Mustang. He and I walk into the office and there is this guy sitting who looks like Santa Claus leaning back in a chair like he has not a care in the world. This is one of the "old time" yards where the office is all dimly lit and grungy.

After a few minutes of standing around while the guy does not acknowlege us, Dave, my friend says, "Hey, I need a tail light for my xxxx year Mustang, can we go dig through your junk to see if we can find one?"

The old guy spins around in the chair and gives us a big scowl, stands up and swaggers to the counter. He leans over the counter and really gives us the eyeball treatment. Then, in a real serious way he says, "First off sonny, it ain't JUNK, them's USED AUTO PARTS. SECOND, you don't pull the parts, we do."

Dave and I just looked at each other, cracked up, and walked out...

10-4 on that.
Now days they want to be called recycle yards.
They get rather huffy if you call them a junk yard.:grinyes:
But they still junk out junk cars. Or recycle them to here them tell it.
