I searched the database for help with my gauge cluster and although I found some good info I still need help.
I have an 88 Std Hatch and i just bought an 88-89 CRX gauge cluster but it doesn't just plug and play. When I install the CRX cluster with both the left and right wiring plugs nothing works. If I unplug the right wiring plug and leave the left one in everything works except for the fuel gauge and the water temp, plus the seat belt light and check engine lights come on. I thought that it might be the cluster itself so I took it back and they pulled 3 more clusters to try and they all did the same thing.
Theodditie wrote a wiring diagram for both types of cluster but since the 88-89 Civics and CRXs are suppossed to be the same, I'm a bit confused as to which wires need to go where. Please Help.

Major difference is the seatbelt light. If you do have a 88-89 it should be plug-n-play. Anyone else with a STD have this prob??

I'm positive it's out of an 88-89 crx but mine has the seat belt light in between the fuel and temp gauges. The overall shape of the gauge cluster console is different between the 88/89 and the 90/91. I've tried to install both and although mine does have a seat belt light between the gauges it's still from an 88-89. I don't know what trim level it's out of so that may be an issue.

On the plugs from both clusters, are the wires in the same place? Most of the wires should match each other. Like I said on my diagram, if the wires arent in the same place on the plugs, just match the colors together. There are only 2 wires that are the same color, and I say on my page how to wire that up. The easiest way to see what year it is, is just match the plugs up to the diagrams on my page, or also the mounting brackets on the 90-91 clusters are smaller than the 88-89, but the cluster on the 90-91 is bigger than the 88-89. If you need any more help, I'll try to help out as much as I can, just e-mail me @ TheOdditie@hotmail.com

Theodditie,
Why don't you drive down to my house in Norman and check it out. :)

How far away is Norman from Tulsa? if it isn't that far I don't care about going over there to help. You have both wire harness?
