I'm looking for recommendations on which oil weight I should be using for my 95 Maxima. I have 145k miles on it, and my repair shop was telling me that I should be using 10w-40. Should I be using 10w-30 or 10w-40?

Well it really depends, are you burning oil between oil changes? Nissan actually recommends a 5w30 for all conditions, so for higher milage I would just go with a 10w30, unless your compression is going out or your burning a lot of oil, IMO.

i have a 1995 maxima se 5spd with 147,000. in the summer i use 10w-30 and in the winter i use 5w-30. i use mobil one synthetic for high mileage engines and have been since 110,000 miles. i looked at my cams recently and there is absolutely no grooves or wear of any kind and my clutch plate still has plenty of pad. they say you can let the mileage go to 7500 with the synthetic but i still change it every 3000-3500.
