I got a 98 GST and the Stereo is locked. I need the code. I took it to the dealer they said they need the strereo number which is located on top of the radio. my question is how hard is it to remove the radio. what would i need. and how would i go about doing it?

Thanks

It's not hard at all.. Pop the front faceplate off around the vent controls and the radio... Then 4 bolts remove the radio.. You may have to take out the center console if you can't manage to wiggle the screw driver in..

In which case pull out the cup holder, 1 screw there..., 2 on the sides in the back (move the seats forward), with the trim around the vents off 2 screws there... Lift slowly and remove the two lights that are connected. You can twist and remove the one for the coin slot.. as for the cig lighter you have to just slide the connectors off. It's very simple..

You should be able to have the radio out in under 20 minutes. Dealers charge around 80 for this service...

Yeah it's really not that hard. Once you pull the front faceplate to the dash off around the stereo, you will realize how easy it is. You shouldn't have to take out the center console to be able to manuver the head unit so you can read the code off the top.

:1: you dont need to remove the dash! it is literally a 5 min job, including writing down the number on the radio and re-installing it...
