Testors primer and Tamiya paint, bad result?

Well I used this combination, for some reason the paint turned out with a lot of orange peel. I layed down heavy nice coats, and when it was wet, it was an eye catcher, after 10 min of drying it changed. I was wondering if something occured when I mixed different brands. Please let me know what I did wrong.

Testors primer is enamel, and Tamiya spray is laquer. Laquer over enamel is bad (laquer over anything but laquer is bad). It's likey that the solvants from the laquer are eating into the enamel below- hence looking good going on and looking like crap as the laquer outgasses.

I chucked all of my Testors products a long time ago. If you can't get the Tamiya primer, try Duplicolor which is great with all paints. It comes in big cans for less than $5 and lays down nicely.

CRAP!!! Well thanks for the heads up.

i noticed that with some duplicolor spraypaints they tend to orange peel a lot. is there any way to prevent this from occuring? i tend to spray rougly 30cm from the model. Also, how good is duplicolor primer? does it lay on flat?

thats the reason why my civic's paint didnt come out smooth then. the hobby shop i go doesnt have tamiya primer.

There have been some excellent threads posted which go into detail about paint, paint types and painting in general, questions like this honestly surprise me when I look at the vast knowledge available here on AF.

Testor primer will get you bad result with any paint.. It's the worst thing you can use.

I use Duplicolor primer on almost all of my final body work prior to paint. I use either House of Kolor, Duplicolor or Tamiya sprays.

I don't get much orange peel with Duplicolor paints, I think that people try to mist it on instead of using a wet coat. Unlike enamels, it favors a heavy handed technique that you will get away with most of the time.

Well I decided to give testors one more go. No polishing, just 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint, excelent result. Was done with testors purple metalic
