Actually, it is a very interesting process. The same type of material used in babies diapers, as been made into a liquid form. It can then be sprayed on structures, making a thick coat of wet gel. It lasts alot longer than regular foam does. When it starts to dry out, it can then be rehydrated with a water mist, to last even longer.

I have used it quite a few times, and it does work like it is supposed to.

OK..I was getting scared there, thought they were gonna use poop and stink up the whole country!

To make matters worse, the material from inside baby diapers is also used make snow. Yes, snow for those indoor artificial snow slopes in places like Japan (which has snow during the winter anyway).

It works on the principle that kbslacker mentioned except that the area is refrigerated so the stuff is kind of like.... frozen shaving cream... I haven't skied on it but there's a local consortium looking at building one in Auckland.

Well it would sure beat the plastic ski slope I learnt to alpine ski on. This was like skiing on millions of plastic bristled brooms - and boy did it hurt when you crashed. It wasn't soft and the friction burns (imagine carpet burns at 25 mph!) took weeks to heal... Oh well when I finally did get on snow it was much easier...

Ah yes the old Albany ski slope. What an accident waiting to happen that was.
