Misfire

Hey All,

My name is Carlos, I've got an '83 944. I bought it about 2 weeks
ago, and it sat until this past Friday night, when I was able to
replace the blown head gasket I bought it with. Since I've replaced
it, I've got a misfire (I could not verify how it ran prior to the
blown head gasket), and I'm not sure what it is. It seems like
ignition, and it seems going through the RPM range while I'm
driving, its dropping a cylinder. I was thinking maybe there is
still water in the exhaust or in the intake, but am not sure. Any
clues on where to start will be so greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone has any hints on where to start for performance
once the misfire is gone, toss 'em my way, thanks!

P.S. Would the timing belt being a tooth off cause a misfire?
Thanks . . .

P.S.S. Is there a proper way to adjust the air/fuel mixture using
the dial on the Air Flow Meter?
:D :D

Hi Carlos,

I can't help you with your isfire problem, only I can say that I have a 944s" and have the same problem myself. It started a few months ago and seemed to be a flat spot in the engine mapping. Since then it has progressed into a full misfire, which I can bring on by loading the engine about 30% in 3rd gear and accelerating moerately. It reaches about 3,000rpm and then drops a cylinder. This sounds to be the same as your problem no? I have changed the plugs and distributor cap this week and this has made no difference. If you (or anyone) has any ideas, I would really appreciate it.
