Intrepid dilapidation

Boy am I glad I dont own a (Any year) Intrepid W/ the 2.7 liter engine! Some friends of mine own a 2001 Dodge Intrepid. I had heard that they experienced a situation where, while driving, the engine started making a knocking sound and felt sluggish. I volunteered to come by and have a look at it, as I am apparently their' fav. shade tree mechanic. At the time of this writing, I have learned way more than I care to say about the 2.7 L mistake. I am Mystified how it is possible for so many people to complain about the same exact defects in this power plant and not be called out on the rug for it. At a time when Detroit cannot afford any bad press due to quality issues, but to outright Lie about the real issues concerning a vehicle so many people believed in and a company that has proved to be a real class act in the past, and is now finding itself back in the pre-K car mode of "lets see what we can slip past em'. One would think that this motor was created on paper only, then drop shipped directly between the frame horns and out the door. This is reminisant of the Chevy Vega, but with far superior technology availible but not used. Ahem....Please excuse the attitude and get to the meaning of the thread. Im wondering if some of you Dodge people could help me on a couple of troubleshooting steps? Ok, Ive started with the basics.....Inj. fuel pump, intake vacuum, etc. I have 12 volts at # 1 inj. w/ key on. 12 volts at the 20 amp TCM fuse, 20 amps at SSR fuse. Originally , I did not see voltage at the 20 amp Inj/coil fuse. I read in a forum where someone jumpered his battery voltage from the 20 amp TCM fuse to the 20 amp inj/coil fuse locations. I understand the Auto shutdown relay can influence this no voltage scenario at inj. or fuel locations. Which, by the way, Im a litte confused with the "Ign/Run" & "Ign/Run/st can someone advise on this. Also, I noticed the fans running at all times when disconnected from Temp sensor, A normally open switch I suppose? Anyway, here's the basic steps I took.
Removed oil pan and excavated stripped drain plug clean out oil pan of blackened oil and golden pearls. (brass, of course) went back with pan. added 3 qts. 30w, 1 qt. tranny and 1 qt. engine flush. Cranked up and idled about 30 or so min. then died. When running, the engine had a faint knocking noise made much more distinctive by adding a little throttle. Second attempt. Already had 31/2 qt. Quaker State 5w-30 with slick-50. Added 1 qt. STP oil stabilizer (prefer lucas) Tried forever to get it to start. no go. Waited for engine to cool completely. Restarted the next day. This time unplugged the fans from coolant sensor. engine ran 2 hours without dieing. Finally shut motor off. would not restart. Still wont restart!
Any advise at this point would be terribly welcome
