Exedy Stage 2 vs. ACT 2100

Well I'm still on the search for the best cluth possible for my car...I need something that is very streetable because I drive often and I sometimes have to deal with traffic that is at a crawl so I dont want a heavy clutch. I was actually set to buy an ACT 2100 but my friend told me about a drag strip that's in the area that I never knew was there. So it got me thinking and I dont know if I should stick w/ the ACT 2100 (street disc) or if I should go for something else, like the Exedy stage two which seems like it's right inbetween the ACT 2100 and 2600. If you have any other reccomendations I'm open to suggestions.

I've driven both the act 2100 and 2600 and found both of them to be very streetable... I vote for the 2600 if you will be doing any heavier mods to your car for the track. If you don't plan on upgrading too much more then I would say just go with the 2100. :2cents:

Well, I used to be a big ACT advocate, I have heard many times they are the best clutch option for DSM's. However, I have also heard a lot especially more recently, about faulty ACT disks. The spring dealy likes to break. I dont know, I personally dont want that to happen. I have a buddy with a Exedy he really likes so if I can find one of those with enough clamping force for cheap enough I may go that route. I may end up going with an SBR clutch since they are so damn cheap, but built to take it. The only problem I have with those is they are street disk, I want a sprung 6 puck. I dont know man, there was four names of clutches local dsmer's trust, I will dig them up for you sometime.

I have an ACT2600 and it's pretty good. Nice and stiff

I don't want a heavy clutch...it needs to be streetable

The exedy stage 2 is bigger than the act 2600 its not imbetween 2100 and 2600. I'm pretty sure. Its not a very streetable disc... Pretty much every person other than myself who had driven my car complains about the clutch but I am used to it and have no problems. I have had both the 2600 and exedy... Exedy is defintely stronger, grippier and seriously more difficult to control.... Exedy FTW

what do you mean by: "more difficult to control.... Exedy FTW"

FTW = for the win ... I like it more cause it won't break on me like my act did and its really a serious clutch. But since you want a streetable one act 2100. The exedy is really hard to shift evenly especially from a dig. Its soo nice and grippy if you just drop it at lets say 5500rpm though.

Its harder to not stall it and FTW means for the win.

**EDIT**
Dang it I type too slow... Steve beat me to the reply. lol

I haven't heard too much on centerforces... I prefer my Competition Clutch. :)

1) Exedy stage II's are almost dead even with ACT 2100s. The Exedy has 2160lbs of clamping force compared to the ACT 2100.

2) That disk is more than streetable, have you ever driven one? Is sprung so it works just great. Sure is a bit finicky on starts, but it took me all of about 2 stops to adjust too. Also, the pedal pressure on a Exedy Stage II is barely more than the stock clutch, you just have to finesse the clutch and gas pedals different.

I loved the Exedy Stage II, it grips like hell. I would definately recommend it if you are only plannin on like 12-13 second 1/4's if you need to go faster or dont mind the extra pressure, just get a sprung 6 puck disk or sprung 4 puck if they have them.

Thor I'm just saying my act 2600 popped like a cheap tent and my exedy is still dropping like its momma was a whore. BUy what you want but a streetble disk is unlikely the exedy.

 ! That's great man. Yeah, I bet the pucked-ness of the exedy is why it grips better. I am considering that as one of my options now...

I don't know what all the comotion is about I'm running low 12 on my stock clutch.. When I do my clutch install this winter I am deffintly going with Exedy... I've drive 2100,2600,exedy. You 1g guys have stiff ass pettles anyway, so the stock 1g is almost exactly what a 2100 feels like in a 2g.

Shit I'm running the ZOOM Stage II... it's pretty damn heavy... I can't stand bumper-to-bumper traffic, or lots of stops, or somewhere where I have to hold it for 2+ minutes...

I do like the grip on it though... I don't think I'd stick with a stock clutch in these cars, with many mods or higher boost. Then again, I drive like a bat out of hell anywayz... so what do I know...

i dont know what i want.. probably a centerforce... they design it to put less pressure on the TOB, which in turn sounds like another great way to help prevent Crankwalk :2cents:

I think I'm now going w/ a fidanza flywheel and the exedy stage 2

Road Race has a pretty good explanation of all of the Centerforce clutch and how it works and also compares it to the act 2100 and 2600....

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/ecldrivetrain.htm

And as far as flywheels and puck disks go Road Race also has a really good write up on those

Well I just bought a fidanza flywheel ($100!!) and all I need now is a clutch. I'm now leaning toward a centerforce because it's a little grippier than an ACT 2100, but I no longer want the exedy because I don't want a pucked culch because it wont be as smooth...should I also get an extended cluch rod and a new cluch line??

Mikelb

I sprung for the stainless clutch line (1g $20) it allows for a more direct engagement... it doesn't flex...
and yeah, I have an extended clutch rod as well... I might also suggest inspecting the pivot ball and clutch fork... if either of those gets bent, it can cost you a helluva lot more money (a whole transmission for me ;( )

Any more suggestion's?? I'm trying to get it installed over my x-mas break so I need to know soon so I can get it ordered and make the appointment.
-Centerforce Dual Friction
or
-ACT 2100 w/ street disk

I think it's mostly up to now just what you want to get. There are obviously many good clutches out there, you just have to choose one that you like and that's in your price range. :2cents:

The centerforce should hold a little better than the ACT 2100 right??

Yes. Didn't you read that link on RRE that NOFX posted about the comparison?

Ya...I just wanted to be certain. I'll prolly end up getting the centerforce.
