Having an electrical problem and need help

Hello guys!

I am having some trouble with my 92 4dr 5speed honda civic. he problem is that the lights in the honda are flashing like they want to die or as if they are constantly surging. Once I start the car it will consistently do this all the way until I turn the car off for no matter how long I drive. When I first start the car it idles up and down like it wants to shut off but after about a minute it will stop and run regular, but the light flashing will not stop and every light in the car and on the outside does it at the same time. I figured that it would be the altenator but I took the battery off and the altenator kept the car running without a problem so I figured it was not the altenator. If someone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

Leon

Measure the voltage to see what is happening.

Check the larger ground wires connections.

The alternator has an integral regulator and could be the problem.

You should not remove the battery terminals when the car is running BTW.

After I have checked the voltage what do I do?

And thank you for the information! I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Well.... I guess just check the range of voltage swing. About 14.1 Volts should be the max. If the voltage is higher than 14 that it could possibly indicate the regulator.

The other problem is most re-man items available are pure junk.

Any local car electrical shops around your area ?? They are a dying breed.

elverdad, check every possible ground you find and tighten it good.
Measure your battery voltage: car off = 12.6 volts, car running = 14.6 volts.
If that does not help, take you car to any automotive store. They will check your alternator for free.
