code P0401 - EGR replacement

99 2.2l 4c 220kms
P0401 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical DescriptionInsufficient EGR Flow.

has anyone had this code before?
will replacing fix it?
i'm wondering what can be done before replacing it?
If i do go to replace it is $400cad a reasonable price?
anybody have any tips or heads ups on replacing it?

what year and model do you have ? replacing it can be as easy as stealing cookies from a school girl, as long as you get a helms manual or chiltons manual, if you dont know what youre doing just read up and youll get it ,cause 400 bucks is just plain stupid, :screwy:

Just to let everyone know.. If your car pulls a code,, EGR<<INSUFICIANT FLOW,, Don't worry about it.. The only code that you need to worry about is the one that says EXCESSIVE FLOW. The EGR system recirculates hot exaust gases back into your intake. If you live in a non-emmisions area, I personally wouldn't worry about it..as long as you don't mind the Check Engine light on.
But if it sais EXCESSIVE FLOW, this would cause a lean mixture at low rpms. More air getting in that what it is supposed to get.. It will run like it has a vacuum leak.
Much of the time you can clean the egr valve and port and it may begin to work again. Be careful using Carburater cleaner on parts with seals though.. Depending on the seal, it can damage them. Not all of them are vunerable, but many are.. Hope this helps some of yall out,,
