2.7 Engine Problems...

I'm looking at a gorgeous 2000 Intrepid with a 2.7 in it. I'm hearing a TON of horror stories about the 2.7 98% of the problems are with sludge build up. Now I know some of the people just don't take care of vehicles like they should. To solve or help reduce this sludge problem why not have the engine flushed to get rid of current sludge, if it's there. Then use only synthetic oil because it won't heat up as much and therefore won't build up like regular oil. And obviously still regularly change the oil....Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
